Wow ;)

AMD delivers the performance in dx12 right of the bat once again it seems.

Guru3d used the absolutely latest available drivers for all cards

Here is how threading looks in the game under DX12 for those interestested:

No%20more%20overhead%20problems._zps1iwcpiv6.png

We see one thread being more dominant than others. DX12 did get rid of my problems caused by AMD driver overhead, which was causing me problems running on streets especially (lowered gpu usage and clockspeeds). Ram usage is quite high, but that is running on Ultra details, and card only has 4GB.

Using my 290 I actually get about 10% faster frames at 1080p in DX12. I think its fair to say that AMD has a huge advantage in DX12 over Nvidia, while Nvidia has a decent advantage in DX11.

Not sure what happened with Guru3D's 1080 results, the other Nvidia results are identical in both DX11 and DX12.

Just tested my 1080 at 2560x1080 with a 111 fov. Everything maxed out except MSAA disabled.

DX11
Ave 58.7
Min 47.8
Max 71.4

DX12
Ave 58.4
Min 47.8
Max 70.4

Both very much within margin of error.

wont it be something if the fury x ends up consistently faster than the 1080 in the future? This whole thing would just look stupid at that point. People would be going "AMD stahp!"

Hopefully the gains get better with more patches. Right now it looks just a bit better than tomb raider, but that could just be down to better CPU usage and the possibly higher density in the game vs tomb raider.

Oooh, a new driver update to go with it. Time to get to testing! Worth noting is that this patch also addresses the contact hardening soft shadows issue that people had pointed out.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/337000/discussions/0/343785574535318768/

"- Improved shadow behaviour in the distance when Contact Hardening Shadows is turned on."

This could affect performance if more work is now being done to render CHS. So it would be wise to retest DX11 along with DX12.

Why Guru3d did it on High settings is because they were getting some issues due to Vram on Ultra setting on DX12
However, when you things more then high settings this what happens to AMD in this game.

Well the game does warn that the "Ultra" texture setting should only be used by GPUs with more than 4 GB of RAM. For that reason I'll be testing with everything maxed out except textures and MSAA.

Assuming FPS/benchmarks are the same between versions, does DX12 have other advantages (graphical quality, input latency, etc.) compared to DX11?

According to the patch notes, nothing in terms of visual quality for this game.

computerbase sees performance regression across the board for both AMD and Nvidia with DX12 in actual gameplay in Prague level. Is everybody else seeing the same. This is why I do not trust canned in game benchmark tool as they are not reflective of actual gameplay performance.
Go reddit. It is carnage in terms of performance on Dx12. In game play it is stuttering every where even on my R9 290 and only in build benchmark i am getting 3 to 4fps gains.

Improved FPS is the entire point of DX12. There's no difference in graphical quality. Regarding input latency, it could be improved, but they haven't made any claims that it's improved.

It looks like those using higher graphic settings are seeing worse results, I wonder if DX12 will help on lower settings (high not ultra) with this patch?

Again not sure why they are having such a big difference between DX11 and 12 on the 1080. I'm using the same processor and about 33% more pixels and my results are nearly identical.
Their DX11 and Dx12 results are close at 2560x1440. You have 33% more pixels than 1080p. Still not sure why DX12 is worse at the lower res with Nvidia.
