Deus Ex:IW demo is finally out.

somewhat the demo feels weird to play. but i guess it's because i'm playing thief 2 too right now, so that i'm constantly looking for the leaning keys and the darkness-indicator. also those guys take sh17load of headshots...

i'll try again tomorrow...

Is it just me, or does the interface feel too big and clunky? Its like they took the Xbox interface and just slapped it on the PC version.

That demo just screams rush job. Mouse settings are all screwed up, and if you look throught some of the configuration files, a lot of the settings (such as the HUD) are optimized for the X-Box. I can't stand the non-body specific damage either. A head shot should kill in one shot, not the same five or six it takes if you shoot at the legs.

It seems to be a little crisp around the edges but I think the core is there. I love the flashlight and the shadows.

Some folks are having a problem with settings not being saved. Simply un-"Read-only" the user.ini in My Docs. and it should work fine.

I'm not very impress with the demo, the graphics isn't going to wow anyone, the interface is kind of anoying, it's in front of you the whole time.

Here's a link to a little tweaker program. It works well but you need to use before you launch each time I believe.

Hows it run for you guys?
Im running it at 1280x1024 @ max w/ 16xAF. And it runs very smoothly. Not sure of the frame rate, but it runs smooth.
Have you noticed the "blureyness" of it? Things that are more than a meter away seem to be a bit blured. Is that a PS effect? Cos it seems to be the same sort of blurryness that i see in the mirrors in MP2.
It doesnt seem too bad. Not keen on not having the inventory/weapon cache/notes/objectives all intergrated like in DX1. Not too thrilled about alot of the small things, but i`ll probably import it rarther than waiting till march to play it propely, as it runs well on my existing PC.

Not sure but I prefer that" Bloom " off in video options setting, makes things sharper.

I played the demo for a few hours yesterday and it's really pretty good. They messed up the settings in the release. I also think they gave the player too many bio mods in the demo, probably just to give you a taste of it.

It needs some tweaking in certain areas but the new engine based on shaders is amazing. I think they have another major hit on there hands once the little things get ironed out.

Is that what bloom does? What a wierd name. Why not called it "blurry effect!". lol.
Anyway.
As it runs amazingly well on my pc, which has quite suprised me.

Is it just me though, or do some of the screenshots of the game look better? For example, in the demo, the Greisel pit area, is in a couple of pre-release screenshots, and they`re bump mapped in that (the walls), but in the demo, they`re just flat textures.

Might be that the final release is a little different.
UT2k3 demo shipping with lower graphical options than the final game, and lower resolution textures, to keep the size of the download as small as possible.

I don't know if they did this for DE:IW, but they use a similar engine IIRC, so it might be something like that.

The problem isn't that textures are cut to preserve size, they're just disabled by default via a default.ini in the system folder of the game. You can also find htrere some goodies like volumetric lightning, triliniear, etc. And most importantly you can change the hud so it stays on the side in stead of right in the middle of the screen.
