i really think so. ;)

i am about 3/4 way through the game and it IS better than the original.

How many of you just dropped the game because of it's "unplayability"?

Patch 1.2 addresses most of the crashing problems - it will still exit to desktop about every 2 hours but runs smoothly on my 3.3Ghz P4/9800xt/1gb PC3500 - 10x7; all details hi; bloom 'on' and 2xAA (NO vsynch) and some AF.

looks beautiful and . . . BEST OF ALL . . .

the STORY is GREAT . . . it covers the original game and is a "true" sequel (with ALL of the gameplay intact).

there is also smaller maps; more LOGIC to the (pointless) "running around" of the original and less 'apparant linearity'.

the ONLY problem i can see is that is STARTS so damn slow and is hard to 'get into' (like the original).

My friend said almost the same thing. At first he was apalled, but when he played it again a few months later, he thought it was pretty good (once he got far enough into the game that the acting didn't physically hurt his ears). It's really too bad they didn't get the first part of the game right, or it might have been a classic. I guess a crappy beginning can just sink a title.

That's Leo, your ex-trainee. I didn't know he kills the Omar though as both times I've given him the money so I could meet up with him on Liberty Island.
Correct . . . . . i mixed up the names,
(i never used Sid as my pilot . . . . i was "cheap")

I learned to "save" before every cutscene to explore ALL the possibilities . . . . you can really get some extra info that way . . . . he is almost an Omar (except for the cerebral implant) and is bitter. By your taunting him, he goes crazy . . . . and runs away. UNLESS you RUN after him, you won't know he blows away the Omar and Protector (and then THANKS you for "helping to make up my mind" and offers to meet you later) . . . . . i kinda "liked" his character and make special effort to save him through the end. (much like i hated the Templar and the illuminati leaders).

it' weird - and wonderful - to "like" or "dislike" certain characters in this way . . . . i think its a mark of a very good game plot

(on liberty island it's a good idea to explore all 4[+] options with Tracer and "his" bots) ;)

BTW, BFG10K, yours was a very nice review.

diegoalcatraz, why NOT disagree? it's good for the discussion. ;)
:)
. . . . you admitted you liked DE- IW - just not like the first - <<I played (and worshipped) the original>>.
So, how did you score both games? ( i/m assuming a 10/10 for the original) Just for kicks, how did you rate Thief III and Doom III?

I'd have to award DX a full 10/10; it did have its flaws, but I was blown away by the story, concept, and gameplay. If that game were never made, and someone say programmed DX:IW, I probably would've given it a nine. But since it is a sequel, and so much of it felt like a copy from the original, I'd have to go for seven. It's still a great game, just not up to my expectations of the original.

For Thief III and Doom III, I've only played the demos. The former I wasn't impressed with; sneaking and saving games tend to be a bitch for me. I'm a Doom child; it's THE game I played growing up, and hence I'm attached to that kind of gameplay (serious sam - esque). I'd give it an eight.

You know how us fanboys get; we worship the original game then cry murder when the sequel(s) can't live up to expectations. Same thing happened for me with X-COM.

Invisible War was quite fun for me, didnt have any fps issues on the 9800pro (certainly did with the gf3ti200, and tbh better looking games were playing fine on it). It wasnt nearly up to what i might have expected after hearing all the DX lovin, but fortunately i heard all the flames first and got it pretty cheap. Still too much of a tiny-space console game for my liking, and rather too dumbed down and simplified for my liking. I still dont know if they actually intened the ending to be some kind of 'twist', because it certainly wasnt.

well worth picking up from the bargain bin.

Sure . . . . i can agree with you - to a point. ;)

Personally, i never played the original Doom (but love Serious Sam) and DETESTED Doom III.

Thief III is very much like DE-IW. This is one you can "Rambo" instead of sneak if you want. I gave Thief III a 9/10 (and DE-IW 8.5/10). I found the original DE too long and too much running around and hated the gfx (so it scored "only" an 8/10).

We aren't really so far off in our scores. :)
(and i haven't found a "10" yet)

i guess HL/2 will be the BIG discussion (and 80 new threads) next week. :p

Any suggestions to fill my gaming weekend? (besides Party)?

I have unplayed and in my possesion (mostly as HW "bundles"):

Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6

Tomb Raider AOD

007 Nightfire

Dragon's Lair

Red Faction

Definitely give Red Faction a go as it's a very good game. The vehicles and weapons are extremely well done.
