Deus Ex: HR director's cut coming

When I heard that Deus Ex: HR was coming out for the Wii U with fixed boss battles I thought that it would be nice but highly unlikely that those changes would come to the PC. Apparently I was wrong since the Director's Cut is coming to the PC alongside the current gen consoles:

http://www.gamespot.com/e3/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-coming-to-360-ps3-and-pc-6409843/

I've had some interest in replaying Deus Ex: HR but never got around to it or the DLC. If the cost of upgrade is reasonable, I'll end up picking it up.

Deus Ex HR was my surprise-favorite game of 2011. If they don't charge much for the upgrade, I'll check it out. It would be a good excuse for a second playthrough.

Great news. How the game should have been at release. Kudos for them doing this. I just hope they price this right considering how long the game has been out.

Of course it would be even better if they pulled a CDPR and gave it all owners of the original. Unlikely though.

Are they charging the game again for PC?

If so, I really don't like this trend. That's like screwing the consumers above and beyond for a glorified patch fix.

From what I read nothing is said whether its a patch or even if they are charging only that they are bringing the DC to PC.

The better charge like $2.50 at most o people that already own vanilla DE:HR.

I'm guessing they'll release it via retail (there never was a game of the year edition) and charge an upgrade fee for current owners. Even if the fee is costly you can always wait a while for a steam sale.

I think it's odd that they're releasing upgraded graphics. The game came out only two years ago so it's hardly old. It's not like the WII U gave them improved graphical ability above the current gen consoles and they're releasing the director's cut to reflect that. I doubt the current gen consoles can even handle any major graphical improvements.

The improved AI/ redefined game balance and combat I can understand since going over the game two years later to port it they could've found some things that they wish they'd done better the first time around. Still the only major critique the game had was the out of place (and later revealed to be outsourced) boss fights. I'm surprised that the developers did anything more than fix that for the WII U version and are actually releasing a director's cut.

I'd be interested in the changes if they could be used alongside some of the released mods and developer menu. I'd be a bit surprised if that was the case though, so hopefully some of them get updated to work with this new version.

:Edit: Also, I hope the game balance changes don't simply mean they made it easier.

I think it's odd that they're releasing upgraded graphics. The game came out only two years ago so it's hardly old.
When they released the Missing Link DLC, they claimed it had some graphics improvements, so I assume the minor changes they implemented there are now in the full game as well. Perhaps there is more to it, but that's my guess.

Best case scenario: It's a free DLC for people who already own the game.

Ok scenario: They charge a small, $2.50-$5.00 fee for people who already own the game.

Square Enix can screw off scenario: They require you to pay a full $50/$60 all over again even if you already own the game.

At least on PC. I think it will be hard to implement core engine changes on the 360 or the PS3.

I loved this game. Since I already have some of the DLC, I'd pay $5 for the DC upgrade.

Seems reasonable. As I don't own the DLC, and would cost about $10 to get them anyway; outside of a sale, it's a nice deal for me.

Doesn't really seem worth it for me since I already played it through on PC, but interesting nonetheless. I wonder how it'll look on a Wii U.

They announced the pricing.

http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/dxhr-–-director’s-cut-pc-digital-release-details

For those who already own Deus EX: HR, the upgrade costs $9.99 if you own the basic game without DLC. If you own any of the DLC, it will cost only $4.99.

I already have The Missing Link DLC, so it's $4.99? Sold. (btw, it's not any DLC, it's the Missing Link DLC specifically to get that price). It's worth it to me to "fix" the boss fights, get an overhauled graphics engine, enable a "New Game+" mode, developer commentaries, etc. I'm glad to see they're offering it for a fair price to people who already own the game on Steam rather than charging the same as they would to people just now buying the game.

I liked the game enough at launch, it was let down a lot by the boss battles which they apparently outsourced *rolleyes*

So I guess this is what we get for supporting the game as loyal fans, we get the inferior version and when they finally fix their mistakes we're expected to shell out for it again, that's extremely disappointing.

They need to take a leaf out of the book of developers like CDPR which have released huge patches for the Witcher games to fix all the crap post launch, and did it for free for all people who currently own the game.

*rolleyes*

while it was a cool game, I dont think it warrants another play through...

I was thinking about playing again, then I realized I'm just sick of it after one nice playthrough.

It was a decent game. And despite it being an 'RPG' there wasn't much actual replayability. You end up playing as half stealth, half gun-toter.

Hmm. The Director's Cut is live on Steam, but I'm not seeing any way to get the promised discount to $4.99. When I try purchasing it directly it still shows a final price of $19.99 on the final review page. And it's not posted as DLC for the main release.

Edit: Never mind, it's displaying the right price now as if it's on sale. Just took a few extra minutes. Non-night owls probably won't notice. :)

Edit 2: You know, even after purchasing the Director's Cut, Steam is still displaying the game's price as reduced to $4.99. So I did a little test of starting a gift purchase of the game to see if I could get to the final purchase review page with that same price. Turns out I can apparently still buy the game at the $4.99 price for a friend!

Edit 3: Just to be clear on how this works, the Director's Cut shows up as a completely separate game from the original release of the game in my Steam games library. It's not an update or DLC for the original release, it's a whole other independent download (which doesn't frustrate me, as I had DE:HR uninstalled in the first place). Also, the original release's store page has apparently been taken down on Steam. You can now only purchase the Director's Cut. (which makes sense, given that you're getting more content for the same price)

I can't bring myself to be upset with them, the $4.99 pricing was pretty gentle.

I'm downloading it now. I may try to play through it again, we'll see.
