Yeah, I agree. I enjoyed the heck outta DX1, but the Thief series was just soooo immersive. I remember turning my speakers up as loud as I could handle, sitting there, barely breathing, listening intently for that guard to inch closer, stop and pivot, and turn around so I could blackjack his thick skull. Fun missions, good story, and nice goals for different difficulty levels.
One of my complaints about DX2 (and I'm still in the early stages of the game I think) is that it just doesn't feel like my actions do anything to the world around me or those in it. I felt that a little with KOTOR too, but at least you had some freedom to be dark if you wanted, or kill someone and not have them join your party, etc. However, I still would have preferred it to be more like Baldurs Gate in that if you have Light side party memebers, but repeatedly did Dark Side stuff, that they would do more than just give you a tongue-lashing, and vice versa for the Dark party members.
In DX1, I felt that I actually made a difference in the story I uncovered. Which sides I played against each other, etc. In DX2, I don't get that. I think they're all a buncha idiots. The closest you can come to really affecting those around you is whacking the Omar merchants and then having them not sell their highly-overpriced Sharper Image catalog items to you.
But, I am enjoying it. It's just there's a lot of areas that stick out as places that could use a good overhaul. And that's distracting at times.
