at least his lies don't kill Iraqis and American soldiers

Maybe if Clinton had not lied, his influence would have been stronger and Gore would have been elected.
No Iraqis or American soldiers killed.

Of course, there would be more foreign attacks and quite possibly more attacks on America herself.

Wow, this is one of the most pathetic posts I've ever seen on P&N. Sad that it is coming from someone I thought was respectable.

He is trying to live up to societal norm. It is not that he had an affair with his assistant, it is that he had cops fired for blowing the whistle and telling the truth. I guess the Cops should just have blackmailed him. Of course that may have occurred also. It is hard to say who did what in this modern era.

The city should just charge the mayor for wrongfully firing 2 police officers and then let them sue and make the Mayor's salary go to pay for the law suit.

He must not be too worried about this, his family just came back from a vacation in Florida using a private jet...only 43,000$ round trip or something they where saying on the radio this morning, when questioned by reporters about this the mayor responded ' Aww man, anyone else have any questions?

Only in detroit do you have half started sky scrapers rusting into the ground downtown lol. I ued to live in Cleveland and went to Detroit a couple times a year. As a city musically there is a lot of culture and history. A lot of those old buildings downtown are really amazing with wonderful sculptures and art and then you see every window broken out of them. It really is something to be seen first hand. Everytime I went there i would cab it everywhere as I figured the cabbys had a pretty good sense of it all and would keep us safe.

Umm.. There aren't any half started sky scrapers anywhere in Detroit. Yeah, a number of older buildings in Detroit are in serious decay, but I'm not sure where you're coming up with your stuff.

One word describes this guy. Arrogant. He smiled and smirked all the way through the sentencing. The judge even called him out on it during the sentencing.

He was even so bold as to a few days ago talk the manager's at the Detroit Club into letting him have a private room for a meeting with 3 other people. Once the meeting was over, he skipped on his bill and told them to charge it to the city, even though he had been kicked out of office almost a month earlier.

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, yet he had to resort to prostitution

Kilpatrick was pretty good at the talking, but very poor at the governing.

?I ain?t never seen nobody so happy to go to jail,? one council staffer said to no one in particular before he left the room.
WTF type of english is that?

What a scumbag, and so unapologetic. I'd almost make him stay there indefinitely until he apologizes and admits fault clearly and without qualification.

How is the ex-mayor gonna pay a $1million fine unless he was rich before?

He must not be too worried about this, his family just came back from a vacation in Florida using a private jet...only 43,000$ round trip or something they where saying on the radio this morning

Looks like he already had some 'other major income' as I don't see a simple mayoral salary paying that much.

Honestly, given his history, I wouldnt be surprised if he has a ton of City money stored up. He is known to have filed many expense reports that were just under the limit of I think $25,000 because that was the limit at which he needed City Council's approval.

I don't know if the settlement is good or bad. I'd love to see him get hit with a real jail sentence, say 10 years and a large monetary fine, but on the other hand I wonder if a Detroit jury would have convicted him. Maybe Beatty will get a nice long jail sentence. (Don't you just love the way the newspapers have portrayed her as a poor, unemployed single mom? She was getting about $130,000+/year and probably didn't have any real job responsibilities.)

The City of Detroit itself is a shithole and has the most pathetic downtown skyline of any city of its size. Unfortunately, because the people who live in the city itself (a true ghetto) basically live in almost third world poverty, there isn't any real hope for the city, especially when the State of Michigan itself doesn't have an economic future.

The metro Detroit area itself is nice, especially the northern and northwestern suburbs where the middle class and upper middle class live, especially the northwestern lakes country.

Yes, because if this were a Republican what do you think the thread title would be here?
