Detroit Tigers get Edgar Renteria

Squisher

Lifer
Renteria, a five-time All-Star, hit .332 with 12 homers and 57 RBIs in 124 games with Atlanta this season.

In exchange for the 32-year-old Renteria, Detroit gave up right-hander Jair Jurrjens and minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.

Wow, I'm not a huge baseball fan, but that's GREAT news for the Tigers. I only saw 3 games this year, maybe I'll go back more next year.

Now to see the Tigers' name batted around (pun? yes?) in discussions about A. Rod.

WTF are they going to do with Guillen?

article mentions guillen moving to first base. He played at first several times this past season.

Yep, that was the plan all along. Guillen was not a great defensive SS, so moving him to 1B is a good move. The Tigers are giving up 2 really good prospects in this deal (Jurrjens pitched several games in the majors this year and looked really good. Hernandez will be a really solid OF one day), but I do think it was a good trade.

A batting order of ...
Granderson
Polanco
Guillen
Ordonez
Sheffield
Renteria
Thames
Rodriguez
Inge

... seems really solid to me.

I suppose that should cut down on his injuries too.

losing Renteria sucks but Yunel Escobar is the real deal and will be cheap for a few years.

its time to check out this Jurrjens and Hernandez

Yep. Braves have a lot of holes to fill and need the money to resign Texeiria (sp). Escobar filled in for Renteria well when he was injured.

They still need to find a third starting pitcher though.

Except for Inge, unless the batting coach breaks his toe with a hammer. He batted .340 when his toe was broke in July. And, who knows if Sheffield will be back, his shoulder injury was worst than first thought. Although, Maybin might work his way in there.

I think Dombrowski is just getting started.

Yeah, Inge can be an excersize in frustration. He has huge power, but there are times where you'd bet every dollar you have that he's going to strike out because he clearly has no confidence at the plate. Leyland likes him though, so he'll stay around. Hopefully they can work out the kinks.
