out of curiosity, did martz or vermeil build the vaunted 'greatest show on turf'-style offense?
seems martz's offenses, while good, haven't been as lethal as when vermeil was around.
Vermeil was called into Shaw's office and told to run Martz's offense, or he was fired. Martz made that team. Vermeil wanted to sign Hostettler after Green got hurt, Martz told the front office if someone other than Warner was given the job, he was going to quit. The Colts gave up on Faulk. Vermeil didn't even want him, and badmouthed the trade afterward. Martz made him a HOFer. If the officials call any of the 12 holding calls the NFL apologized to the Rams about with McGinest holding Faulk, the "GSOT" has another Super Bowl win.
Most Points, NFL, 1999-2005:
* 2. STL Rams
27. DET Lions
* Rams averaged 26.9 pts; Indy was first at 27.0 points -- in other words, a virtual tie.
Most Points, NFL, 2006-2007:
15. DET Lions
20. STL Rams
Let's see.... one team goes from 2nd to 20th after a certain coach leaves.... and the team that the coach joins improves from 27th to 15th.
Those that doubt what he brings to an offense are fools, easily confused by the 70 year old writer who thinks that players don't need helmets. They started 6-2 by flinging it. The media hates passing. When the Pats lose after only running for 12 yards in the playoffs I promise it will be brought up "If only they ran it better." BS. This isn't 1968 anymore. The rules are set up to pass it. If you can't, you lose. Ask the Vikings. Best running team this year, by an UNPRECEDENTED margin, and 2nd best against the run. Where are they playing next week? Nowhere.
