Holstrom is out, probably for the rest of the finals with a sports hernia. Probably the pitchfork Gill gave him.

you don't get a hernia from what gill did...

Apparently you don't get a penalty either.. 🙂

Edit: 1000th post!

27 hours until Game 4 and I am hyped up. Nothing went the Red Wings' way in Game 3 and they were still in the game.

The matchups made a huge difference for Pittsburgh. They saw more open ice and there were more mistakes made when their best players were on the ice.

The Wings will likely be without Holmstrom for Saturday. It is not confirmed that he is out for the rest of the playoffs and I would imagine that if there is a Game 6 or 7 that he will be in there. This affects scoring depth but I still have a good feeling that Detroit will win this game.

Even if the lose and head back to Detroit tied 2-2, the Wings have a huge advantage in that 2 out of the last 3 games would be played at home where they have absolutely owned Pittsburgh.

🙂🙂

LETS GO RED WINGS!

sweet game, finally.

how much time elapsed in the third before a whistle?! that was awesome. bodies were flying! that was amazing hockey. both teams had an amazing transition game going last night... it's pretty sick how fast the action was.

MOAR

Yeah, it was nice to finally watch a true playoff hockey game. The neutral zone trap should somehow be banned.

The Red Wings don't play anything even remotely close to a neutral zone trap.

Actually the Pens were playing a 1-4 game from the outset of game three. That is usually something reserved for holding a lead, late in a game. Whatever works for them.

Rumors...

Yeah, the Wings are denying it is anything but a game time decision and is a sports hernia. Insiders are saying it might be a groin and it doesn't look good.

It's the playoffs it could be anything.

I'm fairly certain that bignateyk was attempting to insinuate that the Wings are playing a trap. I was just stating that this was OBVIOUSLY not the case.

If a coach complains about obstruction it doesn't mean the other team is:

A. Obstructing
B. Playing a trap system

It was just a matter of the Wings wanting it more than the Penguins. They won every battle in the corners, made the right pass getting out of their zone and made zero mistakes in the first two games. The Penguins played their best game in Game 3.

If the Red Wings power play can give them anything they will win Game 4. They are a MUCH BETTER 5-on-5 team than Pittsburgh.

If Holmie is out, I don't think it will be that much a big deal. Franzen is back in the line up and you could switch Holmie for Datsyuk or McCarty on the PP.

If you and an opponent are skating down-ice shoulder to shoulder and you start taking a path that impedes your opponent from going through you, well then, that's just good hockey. If during that skate one of those elbows you own happen to intersect with your opponents body it is just a product of your body mechanics during vigorous skating. 🙂

God, I love this game. The battles within the battles.

It'll be Cleary on the PP along with Franzen, but it sounds like Homer will play.

Hasn't Cleary looked good without that football helmet?

tonight might as well be the final game as far as the Pens are concerned.

i'm hoping for a 2-2 series headed back to "Hockeytown".

i don't care who wins the series i just really want to see six or seven games.

Holmstrom was not on the ice for the pre-game skate. He is out.

Cleary will likely move to the first line. Maltby moves to the third line and McCarty will most likely dress tonight.

🙂🙂

LETS GO RED WINGS!

I don't understand, when Hossa scored his goal wasn't one of the Pen's sticks touching Osgood. I thought that waves off the goal and is a penalty.

/sarcasm

The final period of game 3 was some of the best hockey I've ever seen, hope it continues tonight at the same intensity.

He doesn't have #96 on his back. Oh, and he doesn't wear Red and White.

Did I hear that right, Gary Bettman called that 5 on 3?

Probably.

I got $5 that says Pen's coach is gonna go to the NHL again with another tape and cry about calls not made. That guy is a serious annoyance, if you see a call while on the bench bitch then, don't bitch about it after, especially if you have to watch a tape to get the calls...

I dunno. The Wings have perfected Interference. This Loss was all the Pens fault though, lack of willingness to do what needs to be done.

PS: Bettman called nothing. Both Penalties were legitimate calls.

Thing is though, he is the only coach doing it and well it's playoff hockey ton's of shit ain't gonna get called. It's as if he never played hockey or coached a team before the way he is acting. Lastly, the man acts like he's being cheated out of the game when yet their are calls that aren't being made on his team either, it's a double-edged sword.

So, you're saying the guy DIDN'T chip in the puck before he got checked?

Interference when it is shoulder to shoulder, short handed, is never called during the regular season. Now it is the playoffs, Stanley Cup Finals, and last 10 minutes of a game......NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.
