so is there a way of knowing, through technical information or perhaps through visual inspection of the card, wether it is true or emulated DVI? because i just need a basic but true DVI card.

whats the point?

You can use a DVI-I port to drive a LCD or a CRT (with a DVI-I to VGA adapter) with the same connector. It saves space and reduces costs.
