i know there was a website out there that took in inputs such as room width/length and how far you were away from the tv and stand height, and outputted how big the tv should be that you get. ive tried googling it but i cant find anything besides "guides" to buying tvs but no real definitive answer. anyone have the link to that site or a similar one?

i dont think thats a good idea if you have to tilt your head to the sides to see the mammothness of a 42" screen

Let your wallet decide.

You can use a 42" screen in a tiny room with no problems if you are watching HD content.

The size of the screen really doesn't matter as much as the resolution in terms of what is "comfortable" to watch."

I sit 2 feet from a 24" screen for 8 hours a day with no problems ;)

thats what i thought too, but i just got a 32" widescreen thats analog. im sitting ~ 5 ft from it (small living room) and its kind of giving me a headache because i have to "look" to the sides to see it, kinda like the front row at a movie theather effect. granted its much larger but in essence you can't "see" the whole screen so thats causing me problems. also the stand that i have it on is somewhat low as well so im not sure whether that could be causing problems, or that its widescreen and flat and i have to get used to it (all ive owned previously were 4:3 curved tvs)

i have a 55" sd in my wife and i's bedroom, which is less than 10' away. too big, it wasn't bought for our bedroom but when we bought out condo, it wouldn't go anywhere else. when it dies, i will replace it with a 37-42" hd lcd or plasma...

I'd get the absolute biggest one I could afford....never know how long you'll be living in the place that has that small viewing room.

By too big, do you mean for the room? Is it one of those huge rear projection monsters? The screen size is well within the minimum viewing angle recommended by SMPTE for that distance.

Looks like something caused it to eat tons of CPU time, I got a nasty e-mail from my hosting provider:

Dear Customer,

One of your domains, tvcalculator.com, has been suspended for excessive system resource usage due to tv.cgi processes continuing to run for long periods of time using very large amounts of CPU. This sort of activity cannot be tolerated in a shared hosting environment.

Since most big TV's are not CRT they're actually pretty light. RP sets are mostly empty space, & LCD/plasma units are obviously fairly light as well.

If it was a monitor for your pc, how far would you sit from it?

Howveer big the wall is where the TV will go... The TV should be the same size. Or as close to it as you can afford...

That's my thoughts anyway. ;)

I have a 65" screen in a 13' x 12' room. It's not too big at all. Now I have seen a 74" screen, and I do believe that would be too big. But 65" is just right to me.
