Determine optical drive firmware version in WinXP?

Guys,

I recently moved from 98SE to WinXP Pro. All went well, and we're slowly getting used to the "features" and complexity of XP, compared to 98.

I have a question re differences between two identical LiteOn 48x burners. On our secondary system the properties of the drive indicate it doesn't support Mount Ranier. On our main system the same drive indicates it does. Now, under Win98SE one could go to Device Mgr. and look at the properties of the drive. Among the listing was the firmware version. I don't see that anywhere in XP Device Mgr.

So, how does one determine the firmware version of an optical drive under XP? And, could different firmware versions be the cause of one drive supporting Mount Ranier and one not?

TIA,

Jeff

You have e-mail. I sent you a small program that will check the firmware version.

Aida32 will detect firmware versions for just about any piece of hardware, as well. (Windows, in a lot of cases, will list the firmware version in the Device manager, btw).

or you can use 'Nero Info Tool' to check out firmwares. If you have Nero Burning Rom software installed in your machine, you should be able to see this program in the Nero Toolkit folder.

Guys, thanks for the quick replies. I updated the firmware on the burner in question and it now says it's MRW capable.
