My computer has recently developed a problem. It does the ram check thing and then afterwards halts on detecting........... and tries to detect the drive. Sometimes it would succeed after a few seconds while other times it would refuse to detect the drives on the primary ide channel. I have tried to reconnect the ide cable on the primary ide channel but it doesn't help.

My setup:
Soyo dragon +
primary master maxtor 60gb 7200rpm hd
primary slave tdk velocd 24x12x40x (not sure about numbers but i know it is 24 x)
secondary master pioneer dvr-a04
secondary slave lite-on 16x dvd-rom
connected to raid as extra ide drive maxtor 40gb 5400rpm hd

I'm running winxp w/o sp1, but i don't think that makes a difference. I have the latest bios from soyo's site.

Other stuff:
gainward 750gxp golden sample ti4600
firewire card that came w/ the gainward
usb 2.0 pci card w/ via vt6202 chipset
ati tv-wonder pci

any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
 
try a different cable and make sure that the power is plugged into the drives. also, try to detect the drives in the bios and not auto-setect them on boot.
