Detecting multiple sata

do i have to do anything for my computer to recognize my 3 hitachi 400 gb sata drives?

Mobo:DFI NF4 Ultra

Besides plugging it in? no.

Unless you are raiding, let's hope you installed those drivers :)

nah no raid. its all plugged in but wont detect ill open up my case in a bit and reseat everything but it should be working from what it looks like out here they are all in there pretty good

right with the disc that came with my mobo. and nothing shows up as uninstalled in device manager

What you could try...
Get your windows XP cd, boot up to the setup, go to your partition manager, then, if it's detected you should see extra drives (your 400 GB's.). Just press C, create a raw partition on each one. Quit, reboot into your windows. Then it should be there..

well when i installed windows(i just did it now lol) it did see the other one, so i should go ahead and create a partition?

Yeah, just don't Format it. Otherwise you'd be installing another instance of Windows.
