Artifact Tester hasn't come out since version 5.0 back in '01, and it only runs on directx7. it fails to start because it can't find a M$ .dll file (i highly suspect that file is part of directx7).

so how am i supposed to test for artifacts (beyond visual inspection, that takes too long and is not quantifiable)

looking forward to teh discussion

if u have an ATi card u can use omega drivers that come with artifact detector. i have never used omega nvidia drivers, they may have the same detector

It comes with the Nvidia Omegas, but just loop 3D Mark and see if there are any artifacts, it doesn't take much effort.

i wonder if there's a standalone version of that....perhaps a similar one, not necessarily by omega. i'm checking out these non-WHQL certified drivers

How do i loop 3dmark? i don't have the pro version, just the free one, can i still do it somehow? problem is, the wings fo fury game never results in any artifacts (its too easy), so i have to wait for the 2nd and 3rd game to know for sure. that takes a while, and if you are overclocking by 10mhz, its very time consuming

yes that is becasue artifact tester tests dx7, which is not the entire gpu on an 8.1 or 9 card. I can run 350 mhz gpu on my 9000 pro in artifact tester and dx7 games, but instant i load up a dx8 game, artifacts. the best way to test is loop 3dmark 03, as it tests dx 7 , 8, and 9.
