it's win95 B and a western digital hard drive 13.6 caviar

i formatted and reinstalled windows, it did this before though too.

i'm running in safe mode, turned off power management, disable any screensaver, even went into the bios and disable S.M.A.R.T capabilitys, i also turn off my external modem.
it usualy gets to 7000 on that bit where it counts laods of numbers before in restarts

it runs fine in DOS

any ideas?

Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL before you invoke scandisk and check out the task list.

If you have something called MDM.EXE (Machine Debug Manager), kill it. That is what is causing scandisk to restart.

Look for a program called "power defrag" you should be able to find it w/ google or altavista. Anyway it's a great little program that shuts down windows, restarts with only like the system tray running, defrags, then after it's done it restarts back to normal mode. My dad had the exact same problem as you and I installed this on his system and it worked flawlessly. Sometimes removing stuff at the ctrl+alt+del screan isn't enough. It never worked for him. But this worked flawlessly. I use to use it too until I upped to XP which doesn't need it. Anyway it's less than 1mb...and very worth while. If I bump into a place to dl it i'll post a link.

k i downloaded that and ran the defrag succesfully, but to run the power scandisk u gotta pay 🙁 i'll try it in windows again though

give it the 3 finger salute and kill EVERYTHING except for systray and explorer..... then it should run fine

well i can't even get it to work in safe mode (only explorer is open)

agh screw it, getting a nice new system in a few weeks with XP, it's the messiah
