Desperately need gift ideas

I've seen quite a few of these threads in the past, and searched through many of them just now but none of them were helpful for my situation.

I need to get a birthday present for a close friend (female, but just friends) who I haven't seen in awhile (she's visiting). We're both 19, and she falls into the "fun intellectual" category I guess. The problem is that I'm not very good at this stuff, and she's a difficult person to buy for.

I've always heard the best gifts are the kind only you can give them (or associate with them).. but for me that would be something computer related (lame) 🙂

Oh, and jewelry is out of the question because I'm just not the type of person who can stand to give "romantic" (even so-called friendship jewelry) gifts.

Thanks.. any ideas are welcome, and hopefully everyone won't be a comedian with their used condom recommendations like the other threads (I won't mention any names) 🙂

 
Books - there's one for everyone. Hit the comedy section of Barnes and Nobles. There are humor books for biologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists, engineers, ect. ect. ect.

Find one that fits her, buy a fancy bookmark, and then give that to her.

It's worked great for me in the past for those "hard to buy for intellectuals" 🙂

That's a pretty good idea actually.. I think I'll check the bookstore for something she's interested in that also seems cool to me... and the bookmark seems like a nice touch... Thanks for the idea..
 


Get her a copy of "Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Journal". If she's fun and intellectual, it should amuse her. 🙂

What they neglect to mention is that it's written by Terry Jones of Monty Python's Flying Circus, and it is absolutely twisted as it goes on. I wrote it off as some goofy coffee table type book, then flipped through it out of curiosity. I laughed so hard people looked at me like I was psychotic....had to buy the book and take it home to read - and I usually NEVER pay full price for books!

I'm not sentimental enough for the picture frame.. but good call on the candles -- she really likes that stuff. Too bad I've already bought her that in the past though 🙁
 
I can't give any sort of definite answer, but if you guys are friends and she's visiting, give her something that would remind her of things you guys used to do together. It doesn't really have to cost much... like if you have old pics of you and all your friends (with her in them of course) put them in a frame or something. Or if you don't want to go the sentimental route, find something that would just totally shock her, but would make her laugh.
 
Personally I would go with the power tools. Seriously, they are a damn sight more useful.

Well if she is fun loving type, why not get her a board game? I dont mean Monopoly, but like Taboo, Pictionary, Cranium, or something similar. Or is that too boring?
