Hello
I'm having some extremely unusual problems with my HP pavilion 4533 with
Win 98se. Where do I start, I guess with the most serious problem first
I have everything plugged into a power surge protector, even though I've
tried switching to 2 other power strips as well as direct connection into
two different wall sockets. Now the problem, everything turns on, but
the CPU doesn't boot up all the way or doesn't send the right signal to
completely boot up. SOMETIMES if I hit the power strip switch on
and off quickly the computer will boot up all the way, other times it boots
up and locks up during the boot process, and yet other times it boots all
the way but when I try to open any icon nothing happens It was suggested
I try and clean out the inside of the CPU, so I did and I even took out the
battery and polished it up. When I started the computer I had to correct
my bios settings and that's when I found the computer had been put on
a CUSTOPMIZED POWER SAVING SETTING, which I changed back
to DISABLED. When I restarted the computer all was well, I thought the
problem was solved, I was wrong. Since then the computer has FROZE
up twice and both times I only had one program open (both different
programs when the freezes occured) I in turn had to shut it down and the
booting up problem started again. I checked the bios power setting both
times and it was still on disabled both times. Just for the heck of it I
took
out the battery both times rebooted had to reset my bios setting including
changing the customized power setting back to disabled even though it
was disabled before I took out the battery. Now all three times I have
done this I was able to get the computer to boot right up without any
problems. The other thing I noticed is when I turn on the power switch
the monitor lights up GREEN then changes to ORANGE and when the CPU
boots up all the way the monitor light changes back to GREEN. (My CPU
doesn't turn on with the power strip it has to be manually turn on), however
when I changed the bios power supply setting to disalbled and boot
up the Monitor light turn on as ORANGE first (not green) then turns green
when the CPU boots up. But like I said all it takes is for the computer to
freeze up and I'm right back to the problems again.
DOES ANYONE!!!!!!!!! HAVE ANY IDEA AS TO WHATS GOING ON?
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
