Desktop shell replacement?

You know I'm getting kindof tired of my standard Windows desktop and the shells I've tried so far just really don't suit my tastes. Perhaps somebody can recommend one that I haven't tried yet that will work out well for me, btw I'm running Windows 2000 Pro. Shells I have tried are

  • Litestep - overall a good shell with a good degree of customization available. But it seems to have issues with some of the programs I have load on startup

  • Serenade - Another good shell but somewhat lacking if you ask me

  • Cloud9ine - More of a minimilast shell and that's not what I'm looking for in a shell

  • Ice Sphere - Interesting shell when I last gave it a spin but I can no longer find it on the net

I looked at LiteStep and AstonShell, and have mixed feelings. Sure, they look cool, but they're still tied to Windows Explorer as a file manager, so although themability is spiffy, there's overall not much difference when it comes down to it. I went back to Explorer as a shell because in the end I could see no difference in productivity; there was no improved ease of use or usable functionality.

Now, after tomorrow, I will likely switch a lot of my day to day use over to Linux, so things will be truly different.

I used to run Litestep, but it has too many issues with too many programs...

I now use WindowBlinds 4.0 Enhanced... it works better... 🙂

DesktopX?

Ahh, yes, how could I forget DesktopX. It was one of the most promising programs. But then it got stuck in time ... and too bad it's not freeware.
