Installed Win2k over Win98se, and the default color of desktop should have been lite blue. Instead it wound up Win98 green. When I changed the color in my settings to blue, it was the darker blue, rather than the lite blue that comes up when system is booting and loading. Is there a fix??

This isn't really a problem. Open MS paint or whatever you have, pick a color, make a picture of just that color, open it in IE, right click, choose save as wall paper.
I can't believe you posted to a forum because the blue wallpaper is too blue....

You're absolutely right .. One of THE things to look for in an operating system is the availability of colour schemes and lovely icons. Why bother with stability or security ?

But although, I'm going with the kid .. Win98 Green is just plain yuck!

(I'm just one of those people who use 256 Colours for their icons instead of True Color .. why sacrifice speed in favour of beauty ?)

P.S. I dig ugly muscular women to..

I found the way to simply restore. Go to proprties. appearance, scheme and selet windows classic. It restored it to original color.

Now how do you make the icons larger??

When I used windows I used a black background. I also kept a minimum of icons on the desktop... I did not like cluttering that area up...
I find black backgrounds with lighter text to be easier to read. Maybe it's just me.

If these people wanted pretty they would use Mac OS

I am sure there are books that can help with such meaningless tasks. Come on, if THIS is the only problem you are having with computers you are one lucky SOB. And that problem could be solved if a little thought was put into the problem.

Right click on the desktop, select properties and look around. The option is on the Plus! tab on the winNT system I have access to. I believe it was in a similar place for win9x.

n0cmonkey, I don't think he gives a rats a$$ about what you prefer(I know I don't) and quit crapping his thread, he simply wanted to know how to get a specific color on his desktop. The default Win2k desktop blue is actually very nice. He is not using WinNt so even your advice is meaningless.

right click desktop>properties>effects>cick "use large icons"

KidKasha:
could you post the RGB#'s of that specific color, thanks:)

That "ugly green" is a welcome color to most of us former OS/2 users/lovers... :)

Hey Kid-here's a bone for you:

1)Right-click on an empty area of your desktop, click on properties, then appearence.

2)Click on the down arrow in the little box that says "color". Now click on the box that says "other". This will expand the color palette.

3)Now go to the boxes that say "Hue", Sat.", Lum" etc and enter these values: Hue-141, Sat-115, Lum-105, Red-58, Green-110, Blue-165. Now click the "add to custom colors" button.

4)The sample color will now appear in one of the "custom colors" boxes. Click once on this box then click "OK".

5)Now click "apply" and your desktop will change to the default Win2000 color.

6)Enjoy!

I realize he is not using winnt but as I said I did not have a win9x box to look it up on. From your explanation it looks VERY similar to what I said to do. Wow... My advice wasn't THAT useless after all. I did say that the option he was looking for was in a similar place. These types of questions should be in a newbie section which forbids flaming if this is a problem, but that forum should say at the top RTFM because questions like this OBVIOUSLY come from people who didnt even look at the cover of the manual.

Right click the mouse, choose properties>Display>Appearance>Color>other and set the RGB Settings of your choice. For lite blue it is somewhere R=68, G=120 and B=210
