Hello, i hope the anandtech community could help me out on this since its my first time building a computer.im hoping for opinions and advices. Iam starting on assembling my own computer and just want to make sure that all the hardware i bought is compatible to each other.

Mobo- gigabyte z68XP-UD3
CPU- i5 2500k
RAM- 8GB KIT 1600 (4GB x 2) G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X
GPU- Nvidia GEForce 8400 PCIe (I want to use my old graphics card because i ran out of money of buying a new one)
PSU- coolermaster gx550w bronze
HDD- 320gb sata 3.0 (7200 rpm) (from an old computer as well)
Optical Drive -dvd/CD
Case- Silencio 550 mid tower
Monitor- Dell S2209WFP 21.5" full hd widescreen flat panel (LCD) 60hz
- screen resolution: 1920x1080
- aspect ratio: 16:9

another thing:
the motherboard doesnt have a vga port in it (no onboard graphics), how do i suppose to run the bios if my graphics card is not isntalled yet? and my graphics card has no vga output either, only dvi output? how do i overcome this problem.

also i want to upgrade my graphics card soon once i save up my pocket money. what is a good graphics card that requires less than 550w, compatible with my motherboard socket (2.0,2.1 or 3.0) and has a ratio of 16:9. It woud be good if you list an option of GPU's for me.

Thanks a lot!

I take it your monitor takes an old VGA input? Most graphics cards should come with a converter. If yours doesn't have one, they're not that hard to come by.

If you ran out of money for the GPU, there might be a more effective way to design the machine.

I think the best thing though, is to answer the questions in the stickied thread that Blain wrote, and it will be much easier for everyone to help you. When you state your budget, I think it would also be good to mention how much pocket money you intend to save up for a new GPU, and how long that will take.

What I did was get the Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 mobo... it has both a VGA and DVI outs on the board, combined with the integrated graphics in the 2500K chip gives you video out off the mobo. This specific board isn't quite as full-featured as the UD3 board, it's not bad and is $30 less expensive.

The 8400 will likely be slower that the iGPU in the 2500k so there is no reason to put it in your machine unless you have games the intel drivers won't work with. ANY graphics card will be fine with 550W of power. 550W is a lot. Use DVI instead of VGA. DVI is just a version of HDMI without sound, so you can get an HMDI to DVI cable for it for $3 on Amazon.

Personally I would save some $ on the processor, get an i3, and then buy a graphics card right away.

Well, not quite any; but any single-core AMD card should be OK. Just stay away from the GTX 590 and be wary of the 480 and 580. Your Cooler Master PSU isn't the best, so a cheap 480 probably isn't the best choice for you.
