Desktop Bristol Ridge is MIA

I wanted to have a look at the boards early but I can't say I was planning on buying one. Maybe to play around with if they were cheap but probably not even then.

If Carrizo is made to be 15-35W by design then why not strap two of them together into a 8 module / 16 thread chip at 65W TDP? Then clock one SKU up to 95W and there you have your justification for requiring 95W TDP support on AM4!

Given this news, I wouldn't be surprised if AMD goes all in on mobile computing and exits the enthusiast/consumer desktop altogether. The CPU division is essentially hemorrhaging cash until the next big thing arrives in Desktop compute (which is never for them) as they are far too behind Intel. I think with mobile they stand a far better chance weathering the storm ahead. The future could be Qualcomm vs AMD, not AMD vs Intel.

I am disappointed that AMD is not being aggressive in releasing AM4 Bristol Ridge early. It seems they are back to the old leaked roadmaps where Bristol Ridge launched side-by-side with Summit Ridge in Q4 2016.

As for anyone who is pissed about Summit Ridge delays . . . what??? AMD has been saying Q4 2016 for Summit Ridge for well over half a year now. Also, Summit Ridge in Q4 2016 says nothing about Raven Ridge availability in 2017. We all know that Bristol Ridge will be a relatively weak product, and AMD would be insane not to replace it as quickly as possible.

AMD isn't giving up on workstations and servers. If they were, then they would have inaugurated Zen with a low-power APU instead of Summit Ridge. The fundamental problem is that Carrizo/Bristol Ridge is based on an outdated architecture, and has numerous optimizations specifically for low power usage, which make it a poor choice for a desktop part.

Oh good, I still have an account on this forum... I am as disappointed as everyone else that the speculation of both a March and June launch for AM4+BR has fallen through. My personal predicament is that I planned to have a nice cool 65W excavator APU by the time the summer heat arrived.

I had wondered why they had just announced the A10-7890K Godaveri with Wraith cooler as well as the AMD Athlon 880K and AMD Athlon 845 Excavator 65W only a couple of months ago.

The Athlon 845 has no IGP enabled so it the closest your ever going to get to an Excavator APU at this point.

I get to use my A10-7850K for another year at least.

My point is they keep giving us a line of bull. First it was Zen would be out end of 2015, then first quarter 2016, then 2nd quarter 2016 and now at the end of the year 2016. No duh there bleeding money left and right,they dont have anything left worthwhile to sell.
Its a long while between now and the end of the year.

I dont remember anyone claiming 2015 launch for ZEN or even early 2016. Where did you see that ??

Interesting. A leak a while back showed Bristol Ridge AM4 (FM3 at the time) coming in July 2016. We may see Bristol Ridge for desktop next month.

Perhaps, but remember they fairly recently refreshed Kaveri with new boxed versions complete with a new cooler. Perhaps they don't want to obsolete that part so soon, especially if it's seeing good traction in the marketplace?

I think AMD is on a predictable 1yr cadence for APUs. Bristol Ridge in ~June this year, and probably Raven Ridge in June of next year.

I mean they did promise wide support for upcoming APU's on AM4 , maby it just not ready for the consumer market who are expecting upgrade paths ?

Heise mentions the HP Pavilion 510 with a A10-9700 and some forum leak of a A12-9800 system.

AMD already supplies wholesale the AM4 variant of Bristol Ridge CPUs. PC hobbyist, however, wait until end of the year until they can buy the processors and suitable motherboards.

If this is true, AMD want to release Bristol Ridge along side Zen? Where's the benefit in that if they're already prepared to provide OEMs right now?

OEM's with Zen SAMPLES for Board/System verification.... You can't verify Zen based designs with a Bristol Ridge chip...
