I am problems with XP home. The system boots ok but when I logon no icons or taskbar or anything but the background appear on on the desktop. I can run the programs but I have to use the task manager. Any help would be nice. Thanks

Well I finally have this problem part way figured out. I still get a blank screen with the wallpaper but no icons or taskbar when I first log on. I then have to use the task manager to disable an application called "sysu.exe". After this the icons appear and everything works fine. I have to do this everytime I reboot or log off and then back on. If I stay logged on I don't have any problems. Now I just have to figure out where this application is starting from. Thanks for all your help.

Start > Run > regedit.exe

Go into HKey Local Machine > software > microsoft > windows > current version > run, and check for any key in there that executes the sysu.exe file, and delete it.
Do the same for HKEY Current User, and delete anything that has that file in the run folder.

Also check your startup folder for that file.
