Desktop becomes sluggish...

I have this program, which is basically an eye candy for the desktop. The program runs an anime character, rendered in 3D, walking around the desktop doing things.

Problem is, whenever the program runs, everything runs a little sluggish. Stuff like menu, typing, you can feel that they're not as responsive.

I'm running Win2000, with litestep, at 1600x1200 resolution. I tried changing to smaller resolution like 800x600, color depth to 256 color, but no effect.

I'm using Voodoo 3 3000, PIII 733, and 384mb of memory. Processor utilization is only like 1%. The program uses about 9 Megs of memory, but I still have like 200 MB free physical ram most of the time. I think the Voodoo should be powerful enough too..

Can anyone suggest a solution??

Thanks.
