Desk Chairs

I had a stroke a few years ago, which was brought on by desk chair cutting off circulation to my legs, and causing a blood clot to form. Since I'm now disabled, I spend more time than ever sitting at my desk, therefore my chair is more important than ever.

I just replaced my old Walmart chair with one from Office Depot yesterday, which also has a builtin massage unit. The pulses in it are too subtle for anything erotic or concious distraction, but it clearly helps alot with the legs, as well as general relaxation.

Although I assume that most of you do not share my health problems, if you spend much time sitting, this may be a way to avoid or reducing the chances of ending up like me. BTW, the chair was quite inexpensive.

I'm not familiar with that chair, so I can't make any comparison. The chair that I have is a standard high back armed leather execute chair. Nothing too uncommon, except the massage feature. If it lasts without breaking, I will consider it a bargain.

Are the Herman Miller chairs all that great? I hear everyone rant about them, but they are mucho expensive. I wish there was somewhere close by where I live that I could go do a "test sit" some time. My legs often fall asleep while sitting in my chair (weird burning numb sensation) and I'd like to get a new chair but don't necessarily want to shell out $900+ for one.

Yeah, i LOVE the Aeron. I use to get stiff neck and shoulders ALL the time due to sitting at the computer for so long, but since i got the Aeron, i haven't had any pain. And this chair has lasted for so long. It has to be 6 years now, and it still looks brand new. I'll like to see any other chair look this good with 50+ hr a week of use.

mikej007,

I suspect that there is an Office Depot near you. That is why I went there, because they have dozens of chairs on the floor that you can sit test.

I don't think Office Depot has the Aeron chairs.. At my workplace, all we have are Aerons and they are great chairs. Wish I could afford one for home!

I assume Aerons are great chairs, if they fit you. For me, however, 6'5" and just shy of 300 lbs, they couldn't suck more. My 36" waist-topped ass is too wide for the base, so my hipbones ride on the plastic edge - downright painful. That, and the back isn't high enough for any sort of support.

I was offered an aeron, tried it and sent it packing; I'm now back in my 15+ year old, cheesy purple leather chair and couldn't be happier.

Cliffs: if you're above prolly 6'3" or have a large frame, aerons aren't automatically for you. Try before you buy.

if the chair cuts circulation, perhaps it has too much padding and what you actually want is a STIFFER chair so that your weight is supportted by your pelvis bones (and not distributed about your leg)

also, could be that the chair is too long (cuts into back of your leg)

anyway, as far as HM goes.. ive had an Aeron and a Mirra at the office. not too impressed. (though adjustability is cool). right now the Humanscale Liberty chair provides best back support

I meant a place I could test sit a Herman Miller, before plunking down that type of coin, sight unseen.

Whats the name or model of this chair?

Mine started to fall apart last night. I was sitting in it and i leaned forward a bit but then i kept going forward. i was like, wtf? got up and turned it over and the seat was coming apart from the base! the chair is like 5 years old though and it was a cheap wal-mart chair.
