Deserving or not?

Was in a strip mall yesterday and there is a library in the mall. Well I always park on this certain spot before for a whole year without any issues. It is my favorite parking spot because of the sun shade. 2 weeks ago they painted my parking spot 2o minute parking and me not noticing it parked there yesterday and went in the library. I came out of the library and my car was gone. Towed away. I chalked it up to bad luck. I didnt see the 20 minute. First time. I just have to figure out how to get the $200.

Deserving - IF the space was properly signed. Since it was towed from private property, you should make sure that they had a legal right to do so.

The sign on the entrance of the property says no public parking or you will be towed away. Very generic. How can the public use the library or shop at grocery store if it says no public parking.

That's not the same thing as a 20-minute limit. That just means that they don't want people parking in front of a business while they go somewhere else.

You definitely need to find out whether a 20-minute limit is a legal basis to be towed from a private parking lot.

If you'll tell me where you are, I'll see what I can find out.

I believe that's called a bookstore when it's in a mall and not a library so buy something or get out. 😉

I am a member of a local gym. There are three (3) 15 minute parking spots (clearly marked). One of my fellow gym members thinks he is above the rules and parks his Acura in one of those spots ... for 1-2 hours at a time.

It sounds like you were unlucky ... while the moron at my gym gets away with it time-after-time. Sorry dude ...

Apparently the business where I parked like their parking available to them. I parked in front of a office that was unoccupied. Empty.

No sign. 3 hours. The sign is when you enter the strip mall

That's kind of ridiculous. I doubt most people could do their shopping within 20 minutes, and parking spots should have individual signs when the time limit is unusually short (3/10/20/30 minutes)

yeah the businesses that were there are a tanning salon and it was on the other side of where I park. Next to it was a karate class. Next to karate is an empty space thats where
I was park. Another car (range rover) was towed the same time as mine.
I met the owner of range rover when I picked up my car.

Sounds like a conspiracy between a store clerk and the towing company to rip off people. The clerk at one of the stores calls the towing company and then receives a nice "reward" from said towing company. Very lucrative business, just think if they tow 10 cars a week $2000 bucks, 25 cars a week $5000 and in a year your talking $260,000!

It is a library. So on what grounds can I fight this? I was in the library for 3 hours.

You fight it on the grounds that they violated a city ordinance. If you qualify, you might consult with your local legal aid office.

You need to find out who contacted the towing company: the library, another business in the strip mall, the property manager, or owner.

You should also take a copy of that notice to the towing company, let them know they violated city code, and demand that they return your car immediately. Be sure to check it for any damage they may have caused, as it would be their responsibility to repair it.
