Can anyone tell me some good names in Big Screen TVs , my parents are getting one in their new house and they want me to help them buy it, ive checked arround briefly and havnt found much, and they tell i somthing different in every store....atleast they did to me!!!!! pls reply if u have anything to add to this

First you need to decide if you want 4:3 (square like normal TV) or 16:9 (shaped like a movie screen). The best 16:9's are w/o doubt Pioneer Elite. The 2001 Mits are the second best IMO. In 4:3, it's a toss up. I like the 4:3 Mits over Toshiba and Sony b/c it has the best line doubler of the 4:3 TVs.

What sort of budget are you talking about? Some people spend a couple grand and get the BIGGEST screen they can. This is not the way to go if you want a sharp picture and good quality.

go check out an issue of Home Theatre magazine... the folks there do reviews of all sorts of Home Theatre equipment (gee, who would've guessed?) and from what I read, they recommend this certain Pioneer Elite... I don't remember the model number off the top of my head... but if you want I could look it up when I go back home for Thanksgiving... I'm sure they have it on their webpage too...

Make sure you get an HDTV - they just recently have been brought down to normal price ranges. I guarantee the supreme quality will have much more value than the 10 or so extra inches you could get for the same money.

At least take a look - you will be amazed!

thank you for all your help, we went out with an open mind and gathered alot of info on different brands, models etc etc and i think they will probly get something between 50" - 52" but im not sure of the brand, it boggled my mind seeing all these people walking into a few places i went today and going straight for the 60"+ TV's when the pictures was just plain sh*ttie even from great distances anyways thnx for all the info!!

check this thread in the hot deals forum- [L]http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=278362[/L] go check out the tv at a b&m first... if you like it, get it from 800.com 😉

When I bought my TV I had in mind that Sony was best. When I got to the store they had them all lined up and I just checked out the images and chose the best in my opinion......my opinion..Toshiba. Don't compare them next to a regular tv because they can't compare and don't let anyone tell you that too big is too big....get as big as you can afford. Don't be too worried by brand names aside from RCA's that are suspiciously cheap in price, I would venture to say they all have good quality.....go by what you see and like.
