Dern cat just don't like getting a bath

Bateluer

Lifer
I knew when I got him that he was really afraid of water. I tried getting him used to being in water so I could bath him a week ago. Only an inch of warm water in the tub. You can literally feel his heart rate go crazy. 🙁 He didn't seem to settle down or get used to it either, even after 20 mins of me sitting on the edge brushing and petting him.

So this week, I stopped by Pet Smart and bought some Bath Wipes for Cats. Think baby wipes, but formulated for a feline. I wiped him down head to tail, lets, paws, etc. Poor thing was still scared, he kept trying to get away from me.

Maybe I should just get some leather gloves, plug his ears with cotton balls and dunk him in a full tub?

This was stolen from another member of these forums, I can't remember who, but it applies to this situation.

How to bathe a cat.
1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.
2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water and have the lid and the seat up.
3. Find the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
4. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close seat and lid. (You may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape) The cat will self - agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from your toilet; the cat is actually enjoying this.
CAUTION: Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for anything they can find.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a Power Wash and
Rinse, which I have found to be quite effective.
6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lid, remembering to be careful of those paws!
8. The now clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside wherehe will dry himself.

i just take him, hold him down and let the water fall on him from the faucet...then i quickly lather him, splash him with the faucet and let him run away only for him to come back 2 min later wanting to be pet.....

Cats clean themselves. Just make sure to brush him once per week and comb out any knots. 99% of cats hate the water. They instinctively clean themselves. Good luck.

you don't bathe cats. they keep themselves clean. why are you bathing a cat?

You are supposed to bath a house cat on a roughly 3 month basis. Their tongues only get so much, a good bath does them good.

I brush him on a daily basis, he really enjoys that at least.

That depends on the type of cat. Hairy cats need a bath more often. Short hairs not so often, unless they go outdoors or have diarrhea.

One of our cats likes to play under cars (stupid cat) and occasionally gets oily. He hates baths but I don't want him to lick the oil off, plus it stinks. So he gets dunked a couple times in the tub all the while just meowing this pitiful sound.

Cipher, the cat, doesn't meow at all. He just stands there, shaking, or trying to get away. He's not a very vocal cat at all. As a matter of fact, the only time he makes a noisy is when I lift his food dish up to the counter to refill it. And then its just this strange sounding squeak. 😛

my cats just give me the evil eye after the bath but that's about it. During the baths they just yowl like crazy. But it's only 1-2 times a year.

washing your cat could be easier if you used a detachable showerhead.

place the cat in the bathtub and turn on the warm water @ low-medium pressure. just keep the showerhead over the cat (it'll run around the tub), and it'll eventually get soaked (like it would if it were running around in the rain outside). lather w/shampoo, and rinse. voila.

Are you retarded? Housecats freaking hate water and are terrified of it! They aren't like lions and tiger who will swim...and even will seek water to cool off. housecats clean themselves...you should not be bathing a cat. you probably shouldn't have a cat if your don't know anything about them.

That plan is perfect except for the part where it runs and jumps onto your face and bites an eyeball out and runs off to hide under the bed with its new meal.
