Derek Jeter and girlfriend Minka Kelly have split up after three years, but even close friends of the pair say it came out of left field.

While many had expected the Yankees captain, 37, to settle down with 31-year-old actress and reigning Esquire “Sexiest Woman Alive” Kelly, the pair quietly parted ways a few weeks ago, sources confirmed to Page Six.

A source close to the private couple said the split has been coming for six weeks -- even after Kelly was photographed cheering on Jeter from his family box after his milestone 3,000th hit on July 9.

The source said, “They didn’t want anyone to know they were breaking up until they had talked it all through. Their friends are shocked. But it seems to have happened in an amicable way. They aren’t saying bad things about each other. There was no huge drama. He’s under a lot of pressure with the Yankees, is married to the team, and she is working hard on a big TV show.”

Kelly is filming the TV revival of “Charlie’s Angels” in Miami and didn’t give anything away while promoting her show at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 7.

But another source told us, “They separated a couple of weeks ago. This has been hard. Like any relationship, breaking up is not easy. They were often apart because of work. They never lived together and were never formally engaged. She’s shooting in Miami and lives in LA, but she’s barely ever there.” Other sources said Jeter was uncomfortable with the revealing photo shoots that came with Kelly’s “sexiest woman” title.

Kelly has been keeping a low profile in Miami and sticking tight to her “Charlie’s Angels” co-stars. Her rep confirmed the split.

Last night, reports said Kelly was developing a “growing late-night friendship” with her co-star Ramon Rodriguez. “We have seen Minka and Ramon talking in his trailer way after hours, and often late into the night,” a source told People. Her rep didn’t get back to us.

That's why it's great to be Derek Jeter, you can dump somebody as hot as Minka Kelly without fear because you can easily get somebody just as hot. It's good to be da king.

Indeed. She is hot as hell, but probably wants to get married now, being that she's over 30.

Good move by Jeter. Trade the veteran that wants a long term contract, for some prospects without commitment.

gotta say, that post is amazing. it will probably be the best post in this entire thread, however long it lasts.

also, minka kelly is beauty personified. she's like a disney princess come to life. i think it's really difficult, even for derek jeter, to find a girl that could top minka kelly. it's only steps down from here on out.
 
It's tough for superstars to have good relationships while they are working.
Jeter's crazy schedule plus her modelling schedule means they rarely see each other.
That's why a lot of Hollywood relationships don't work. They are all long distance.

And when you are super rich and super hot, there are ALWAYS other options knocking on the door.
 
You kind of have to admire him....all those woman and not one kid yet.

Look at Brady...2 with 2 different woman. Makes you wonder what would had happened if he didn't get married.

All I'm saying is my first girlfriend looked hotter and my friends ragged on me for how ugly she was so I dumped her! :twisted::biggrin:
 
Jeter is my favorite non-Brewer ball player. He got 3000 hits and won the WS multiple times while NOT cheating will all the other players and pitchers he played against were. That makes him even better IMO.

And his list of female conquests is impressive
