It looks as short as ATi's does now.
Is it due to hardware or is it one of those damn driver "optimizations"?

Damn, that makes it even worse. I didn't even realize that.It looks like the guy crouched and moved a few steps back in the 2nd pic.

I might do that but it is with every game... I think this should be looked into because the same thing happens with dolphin, with MDK2 and with Serious Sam 2nd encounter.Sounds like the pictures weren't taken properly, or more likely, weren't meant to compare depth. Do us all a favor and make your own screenshot. Turn on the game, take a screenshot right as you load into a save point. Switch cards, do it again. Compare the two directly.
Neither. Kepler either renders differently from Fermi or the drivers are forcing an optimization that really sucks.Just a guess, but is there any change you are changing resolutions? It might be that using different resolutions would lead to different aspect ratios, which might cause a different stretch or aspect ratio? Are you using the same output type (e.g., DVI) or did you move to HDMI? Maybe there is some overscan going on?
Um ... can we wait for some kind of confirmation first before we start another witch hunt?

Tell me about it. I have a Kepler 6770, and it makes Dead Space look completely different than System Shock 2 did under my 9600GT.
That is a pretty rare card you have there![]()
Depth range looks compressed on my GTX660Ti compared to Fermi

Seriously, stop making up camel dung.Neither. Kepler either renders differently from Fermi or the drivers are forcing an optimization that really sucks.
I agree with Ocre, the OP has some mania about what I quoted, and the world in general. There are officially no differences between those two horrible tax payer subsidized companies.

Those aren't my photos, but it shows the difference. Things looks stretched out longer on the older HW.
I have and their image quality sucks.go buy an AMD card then and be happy.
You're making assumptions and they're wrong. You didnt notice that your 660 was worse than your fermi card, if you did you wouldve took a screen shot of your own.
No where did I praise AMD as I was saying that if there is a minimum compression of 2:1 then their depth buffer can't be lossless. AMD sucks just as bad as nvidia. We dont care about your sad attempts to smear while boosting AMD in the same post. Apparently your nvidia card just isnt making you happy and is causing you all these terrible issues. You will be much happier with an AMD card, thats the only fix for the issues you got (which i feel strongly are all in your head btw). Put your terrible nvidia mistake in the FS thread and buy yourself an AMD card. because you know "AMD has a minimum z compression ratio of 2:1 for everything at least since the 2000 series." and "AMD isn't using lossless compression for the zbuffer, and nvidia just decided to do something similar."
