Those aren't my photos, but it shows the difference. Things looks stretched out longer on the older HW.

It looks like the guy crouched and moved a few steps back in the 2nd pic.

I don't know about the stretched out thing, but the texture quality on those two shots are no where near the same. If the second shot really is at max settings, something is wrong, very wrong (I realize they're not your shots, but I assume the captions are correct and this is what you are seeing).

Damn, that makes it even worse. I didn't even realize that.

Sounds like the pictures weren't taken properly, or more likely, weren't meant to compare depth. Do us all a favor and make your own screenshot. Turn on the game, take a screenshot right as you load into a save point. Switch cards, do it again. Compare the two directly.

I might do that but it is with every game... I think this should be looked into because the same thing happens with dolphin, with MDK2 and with Serious Sam 2nd encounter.

Just a guess, but is there any change you are changing resolutions? It might be that using different resolutions would lead to different aspect ratios, which might cause a different stretch or aspect ratio?

Are you using the same output type (e.g., DVI) or did you move to HDMI? Maybe there is some overscan going on?

Neither. Kepler either renders differently from Fermi or the drivers are forcing an optimization that really sucks.

Never-mind different camera angle; those 2 pics are not even in the same league quality wise

I'd threw my card out of the window if it made Doom3 look like THAT

Of course, I am taking as granted that you haven;t been "tweaking" D3 or drivers, and that indeed you are getting images similar to those

Um ... can we wait for some kind of confirmation first before we start another witch hunt?

Tell me about it. I have a Kepler 6770, and it makes Dead Space look completely different than System Shock 2 did under my 9600GT.

As others have said posting your own comparison shots would help in investigating this issue

That is a pretty rare card you have there :D

This thread is an epic fail. Anyone can see that the game is clearly misconfigured in the second screenshot. Mine below doesn't look like that.

But instead of the OP actually trying it for himself, we get another thread that’s a figment of his imagination.

Depth range looks compressed on my GTX660Ti compared to Fermi

It looks as short as ATi's does now.:(

Is it due to hardware or is it one of those damn driver "optimizations"?

Seriously, stop making up camel dung.

It wasn't my imagination. The above shots should've been enough to prove that they're doing some terrible "optimizations" and therefore stripping the end user of the ability to have IQ that doesn't look like s***.

Anyway, here are the videos of Tribes(not created by me):
DirectionalLightMaps True:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X632WsN2u3o&feature=youtu.be
DirectionalLightMaps False:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njjjfzZrvVE&feature=youtu.be
DirectionalLIghtMap True:

DirectionalLightMap False:

In addition to the above I heard that JC2 has decal issues.

It should now be obvious that nvidia has been getting pretty aggressive with depth buffer optimizations.

AMD has a minimum z compression ratio of 2:1 for everything at least since the 2000 series. If anyone is interested in it, they can google the papers for the 2000 series.

So AMD isn't using lossless compression for the zbuffer, and nvidia just decided to do something similar.

There are officially no differences between those two horrible tax payer subsidized companies.

My apologies if it's a game bug with Tribes, but I doubt it is.

go buy an AMD card then and be happy. Your deliberately searching for something negative you can crop and paste here just to complain about it. You didnt notice that your 660 was worse than your fermi card, if you did you wouldve took a screen shot of your own. Instead you use someone else's comparison? But whats most puzzling is the fact that those screen shots had nothing to do with a fermi card at all. Awe shucks, thats really misleading. entirely at that.

Then you link to some videos that you snatched (again) from someone else and your trying to pass it off as your issue???? Its more than obvious what your doing, please take it elsewhere dude.

We dont care about your sad attempts to smear while boosting AMD in the same post. Apparently your nvidia card just isnt making you happy and is causing you all these terrible issues. You will be much happier with an AMD card, thats the only fix for the issues you got (which i feel strongly are all in your head btw). Put your terrible nvidia mistake in the FS thread and buy yourself an AMD card. because you know "AMD has a minimum z compression ratio of 2:1 for everything at least since the 2000 series." and "AMD isn't using lossless compression for the zbuffer, and nvidia just decided to do something similar."

Go buy AMD and be happy.

But just so you know, there are millions of issues one could google on any AMD card too. Anyone can find these issues and steal the screenshots and call them their own issues too. This isnt something that can only be done for nvidia cards. So I have some advice for you. After you sell your terrible nvidia experience and by that AMD card, whatever you do dont start your google searching with it. Their are countless problems, glitches, and graphic imperfections with mountains of pictures and videos too. If you do you might end up just as disappointed with it as you are with what you have now.

So my advice, get an AMD card and pretend like its 100% perfect.

I agree with Ocre, the OP has some mania about what I quoted, and the world in general.

I have and their image quality sucks.

You're making assumptions and they're wrong.
I have noticed that the depth range looks more compressed in every game on Kepler compatible drivers than they did on older drivers.

As for making screen shots of my own, I no longer have the 560 Ti so it's kind of hard to make a screen shot. What's the point of making my own screen shot if I have nothing to compare it to?

No where did I praise AMD as I was saying that if there is a minimum compression of 2:1 then their depth buffer can't be lossless. AMD sucks just as bad as nvidia.

The 2 pictures displayed in the OP have little to nothing to do with the depth buffers.
