This is how I normally know I'm in a depressed state of mind. Often times if I smell something, or if the setting is a certain way I think back on days like this. I'll say wow I remember this and that. This reminds me of this and that etc etc.

I'm depressed right now. I went to my father's house where my sick grandfather is living. I know my father is depressed. He is an alcoholic. He drinks every night. He isn't a psychological or physical abuser though. I guess he uses it as self medication.

Anyway, I'm depressed. Talk to you all later!

Are you talking about when I like look back on things and remember things or just the part of being deprssed?

I'm already taking Lexapro for OCD and anxiety. I guess you could say I'm also taking it for depression.

you sound a little too happy to be depressed...I know that it was hell for me, and whenever it bubbles up these days, it freaks me out, cuz I know how bad my life used to be...

Just remember this moment will pass and in no time you'll be back to your old self.

Thanks, that was good for a chuckle :p

I've been depressed most of my life. You can say 'f*ck it' and push on, but you'll just be a cold and empty person, not allowing yourself to have any emotions but negative ones, as you know positive ones may trigger depression again.

Then you find out that emotions can get so strong they'll break any defenses you may have built up, and depression hits a 1000x stronger than before, up to the point where suicide is no longer an easy way out, but final relieve. If you don't have a strong sense of duty at that point, or someone you still care enough about to not want to hurt her/him (need to be still a bit rational for that option) you may well try and end it. Very dangerous situation.

I got so depressed I died. Then I got so angry that I cried. When the tears came, I cried so hard I started to laugh.

I feel just like that, didn't know other had this too.. (setting, time of the year, locations). But to me it's not depression, it's actually a very good feeling. More like nostalgia I guess

It could be nostalgia but it feels more depressing to me. That is how I know I'm in a depressed state of mind.

Yeah... I guess you could be "in a depressed state of mind" and not strictly be "depressed" by definition.

When I feel depressed, I'm just plain unhappy, sad about the past, about what I could have done, about what kind of person I am, stuffs like that. Nope, not nostalgia for sure.

I get depressed a lot. Prozac and Celexa help but once it's built up in my system it gives me a choking feeling, literally like I swallowed a marble and it's stuck in there, so I stop taking it.

Being human is so indignant sometimes.

agreed totally, and on a side note, I guess I'd better not try prozac.

WTF you were taking two SSRIs at once? Your doctor is a quack.
