forget the fast food joints and warehouses.....

You want to be a bartender.... you can make 25 dollars/hour easy and all you do is pour drinks.
It can actually be fun if you work in a cool place... You also get to meet lots of hot chicks 🙂

it's not that i have Zero work experience. I just don't have a job NOW. I have about 6+ of solid work experience...

this includes:
*working as a busboy at my aunt's breakfast restaurent when i was 14
*burger king when i was 16
*computer dept sales associate at Staples
*Gap
*Brooks summer school counselor
*IT tech support at Umass lowell

If i didn't have such experience, I wouldn't be applying at monster.com

nevertheless, I'm still a leech currently..

LOLyourFace!

UMass Lowell ?? ROFL.

Give up all hope.

"START HERE, GO NO WHERE"

Seriously job market around Lowell sucks for real IT jobs. I know tons of people who graduated from there with perfect 4.0 in CS and still don't have a job. All of them moved on to grad school. IT industry around Lowell has been downhill since Jan of this year. So sorry bud you need to go back to fastfood joints or Burlington Mall. BTW I know lot of people who ended up getting jobs at UPS or Enterprise. UPS is always hiring at UMass Lowell so you have nothing to complain.

Just be happy your parents are there and willing to help you at this time. If it weren't for them, you'd be living on the street somewhere, if all you say is true about your inability to find a job...

good luck getting a job.

i'm job hunting also. if the few tech jobs don't come thru for me, it's off to fedex or ups. 😀

Don't get so bummed out, lots of mean folks here 🙂

If your parents are cool with it let it ride, but you need to keep up in some areas. I bummed off my mom until I was 23. Went to school full time and kept a decent GPA (3.7, really should have tried since I didn't even work, but suffered from that minimum effort, maximum gain idea 🙂)

If your folks will let you, after you graduate move back in with them (if you don't now) and work until you get some $$$ saved up. Provided you are getting a decent degree (not p00ter related at the moment, and not something like liberal arts) you can land a decent job if you look around (accounting and chem engineers are the big deal right now I think). Drop $10-15k for a downpayment on a car and or $$$ on a house.

I look back at what others have had to suffer through working and going to school at the same time. They make the same $$$ but drive older cars and still rent apartments and will take a while to get to where they can afford nicer things. If you can stay at home and save up (if your parents wont make you pay anything) you'll be far better off. Sure it's uncool for a while, but it's worth knocking off hundreds of bucks in bills each month when you do grow up and leave 🙂

I know I was lucky, I took advantage of it, you should do the same 🙂

Try supermarkets, I've worked in one for 4 years.... customers are a pain yes.... but the benefits are great, and if you bust your a$$ you can move up quickly and out of bagging groceries and probably into management within 2 1/2 - 3 years..... I was going to be a manager and then a spot in the pharmacy opened up and took advantage of it.... I type up prescriptions and ring people up....and when it's slow I run to tha aisles and grab a magazine til someone comes along. In the bay area they typically start you out a lil above minimum wage.... but journeyman clerks can run anywhere from 17 dollars an hour to 24+. Here in Fresno wages are probably some of the lowest in california, but cost of living is low too..... I make 12.25 an hour and minumum in fresno is 6.75 so not shabby. I work 24 hours a week and I get full kickass UFCW benefits.... they pay for almost all the medical/dental stuff if you work for the company for more than two years. So I can go to school (pre-pharmacy) at the same time. I live with my parents too, but I'm not much of a burden besides taking up a room and mooching some food. The rest of my amenities I pay for myself (Which includes a car payment, insurance, net access, phone bill)

"Be all that you can be!"

I joined the USMC @ 17 for the same reason. I didn't wan to be a burden to my Mom (MY folks had just broken up)

It's hard to be out on your own at that stage in life AND support yourself.

That was my solution at least....

You are what you are. Wanna change it? Become a different person. (Hint) If you keep doing what you've been doing, you will keep getting what you've always gotten. 😀

Here you go.... Link for you.

Take the asvab. Sit with a recruiter and look at all the MOS's till you find something that interestes you. Make something of yourself. You can even work towards finishing your degree while in the military.

*i have a 2.01 gpa

*i woke up at 1pm today
*imma f*cking 20 year old leech
*did i mention my parents work their asses off for $17 an hour?

it's not that i'm a spoiled idiot (maybe i am). I just need a job this summer.... I love my parents and I appreciate what they do for me in my life. I need a job..

I'm calling my parents and see if I can pull that off as well.

oh oh..

Did I mention that if you are Computer Science major at UMass lowell there is no way in hell you will graduate with 2.0 GPA. The CS dept. requires that you have minimum of 2.5 in all CS classes and 2.3 overall to graduate.

So I see you might have to retake 3-4 classes. But there is a problem with that as well. If you got C in all classes registrars's office won't let you retake any classes. They will let you retake but not delete your older grade thus counting both grades towards your GPA. So if you got a 'C' first time around you need to get above 'B' for it to make any real difference in overall GPA.

goodluck.
