OK, I know this was a popular band but I know nothing about them. I have two of their songs and I love them...what other ones should I get? I have Enjoy The Silence and Dream On (which is think is a new single). I like Enjoy the Silence most...what other songs are like this?! :D

get the songs from the "violator" album. many of them are good (e.g. policy of truth,
also try "people are people", "master and servant" , "everything counts", "just can't get enough" etc.

i personally thing everything post-violator is crap. :D

They are the best new wave/techno group of the '80's. "somebody" is a nice song to play to your significant other, if you have one. Just get them all and try them. I don't think they have bad songs at all.

I really don't think Depeche Mode are techno...

If you are interested in them... the first album you should get is "101."

Man, I don't believe this... I know i'm old know... where I can say a band I listen to is "before your time." :(

I remember the first time I heard them, back in about or '81. A exchange student from Brazil had a album of Depeche Mode, and he played it for us at a party. As I remember, the chicks were all dancing to it, so I guess it was a good thing.:)

It was, well, differnt from the rock I was used too. Music sure went through some big changes in the 80's.

Here's another vote for "Somebody". Used to sing that a lot to my first gf. :)

Btw, if anyone's interested. DM is coming to Houston on July 14th.

just about all the albums are great.

Check out the best of depeche mode 81-85 (called something else in the US), and theres a "Best-of" albumer from 85-on as well.

Depeche mode has played a remarkably number of different styles. Almost
every album made since black celebratin in 85 defines a different style for DM.

I didn't really dig them after violator.

my favourites are black celebration, music for the masses, and violator. Of course I was a teen during those years, and in cali, with the whole "MOD" thing going on..

Another vote for Violator. Can't wait until the new album comes out. Only a few more weeks to go.

Hope to see them when they open their tour here in Montreal June 15th.

D'mode is one of my favorite bands of all time. They rank up there with New Order as sharing my #1 spot. I have all of their US released albums, plus a number of imports including the elusive X1 and X2 (Japan only box sets). If you want to listen to a good variety of D'mode, they released a double CD set about two years ago with all their singles. I highly recommend checkout out the singles because it has all of their most popular tunes.

I have all their albums and enjoy everyone one of them (mainly Violator and earlier), but you should probably check out the singles first, then get some of the cool albums. I'm a big fan of their first, Speak and Spell, but I don't know how many people have actually heard all of that one..

Ya'll should check out Various Artist for the Masses. While some of the songs are better left done by the Depeche Mode, several shine, including:

Never Let Me Down Again
Enjoy the Silence
Somebody
Shake the Disease
Shame

I'm thinking about getting the new album now...:)

I love Question of Lust, Somebody, Shake the Disease because they are sung by Martin Gore whose voice I like better than Dave Gahan. But I also like Master and Servant, Blasphemous Rumours, and Everything Counts, and Enjoy the Silence.
The album 'Singles 86-98' is their best of double album, so it should get you started.

Exciter is okay-ish. I wish it were better. Ultra is probably even better than this upcoming cd I'd have to say. Hey New Order has had a new CD to be released for awhile, just kept on getting postponed. Anybody remember erasure?

Nah.. i didn't like ultra. It was kinda overdone. I'd have to say Songs of Faith & Devotion is my fave.. followed by Music for the masses... Exciter... Some Great Reward... Black Celebration..

hell.. who am i kidding.. i love all their albums!

They're gonna be in NYC end of june.. and Jones beach in july.. got tix for BOTH shows!! :) :D
And i have a nice burn of Exciter... but of course i'm gonna pick up the legit copy this Tuesday when it comes out.

Saw David Gahan interview this weekend.. he's certainly cleaned up since Songs of Faith & Devotion! He's back to his old look.. WTG Dave... kudos!

Just reminiscing... I haven't listen to some of the songs on your list in years. It's amazing how
some music can envoke memories of friends long gone.:(

vash, I am right with you buddy. DM is definately one of my top 2 or 3 favorite bands of all time.

Kami, I dont think you can go wrong with whatever you pick. My personal favorite album is A Broken Frame, but this is not nearly their most popular. I really love track 1, Leave In Silence !

The amazing thing about DM in my opinion is that they havent faded. Their latest full length studio album Ultra (1997) is as good as anything they did in the '80s!

I cant wait for the realease of the new album, Exciter, which is in the next few days (May 15 I hear!)

Happy listening to all!
