Hi there

I have Q6600 Core 2 quad 2.4 idle temp is 45 C+ with original heat sink LGA 775 , under stress becomes around 59 to 60 . I am thinking about
replacing this fan with cooler master hyper 212 evo My question is how many degrees down should gain from this replacement or not worth it

thank you moro my Email. mororizk@gmail.com

lol, well yes it decreased temps, if it didnt why would they sell it?

thank you smoblikat foryou reply but you did not answer my question

how many degrees down could i gain from insallation of cm hyper 212 evo instead of the original cooler came with q6600 processor ????

That depends on A LOT of factors, so ill give you a rough guess. No more than 30, no less than 10. Thats stock, if you overclock it will cut your load temps in half, maybe more, though idles usually plateau around the same temps with all air coolers of decent quality.

Case / ambient temp is? (and case ventilation is good?)

going to leave off auto fan control or not? (if not, then no real temp difference).

how dustly is the current cooler?

edit: still using the original thermal pad / paste on the cpu cooler or have you replaced it recently?

As you can see, LOTS of variation and no assured answer can be given to "what will it cool down to".

thank you greehawk for your help

the ambience temp is arroung 37C , the system temp is arround 39 - 40 as i get it from the set up screen at idle speed and sure i am changing the thermal paste, i cleaned already the dust from the current cooler, the case is called 6C29 ( you can see it though google if you are interested ) and sure i will leave the auto fan at the back and small one at side door, but the telescop over the processor will be removed in case of instalation of cooler master 212 evo because of the space so. do you thick i can decrease the processor temp to less than 35 C with all the standard conditions ????? thanks

thank you smoblikat
i did not under stand by No more than 30, no less than 10, means ??? 46 C idle will be 16 or 36. and the stress temp will be 29 or. 49 C ?? or you are talking about fehrenhit ( F ) degrees ??? thanks by the way I tried to find out that infornation in cooker master site but in vein thanks

Ambient generally refers to room temp. Your ambient temp is probably around 25C. With an ambient temp of 25C, an idle temp of 35C is perfectly fine. Your temps are OK. There is no reason to do anything.

The issue with air cooling is that you can not get below the temperature of the air being used to cool (ambient). In a closed computer case, this is the case temperature. So a 45 with a case of 40 is rather good. Turning the fan up might get 2 more degrees but not worth it for the noise.

With a room of 37 (are you sure? that is very hot) and a case of 40, that difference would indicate a good case cooling, so no room to improve there.

To get lower you will really need to check the room temperature.

also before I forget, if you have a air tunnel to deliver the current room air to the cpu, then case temperature does not matter as much, providing the extra air can find a way out of the case and does not hang around (ie: is removed).

What I mean by no more than 30 and no less than 10 is that your temps will decrease no more than 30 and no less than 10, im talking degrees C.
