Sorry to say but State/National laws > city laws.

There will be no enforcement of this.

Actually you are incorrect.

Since you have no specific granted right (federal or state) the county can do whatever they want.

It sickens me to be so close to this. The cops in this city need to be doing more important things like taking care of those teenagers you mentioned. I know that this is being fought by several people and hopefully it will get shot down. Save the dogs.

ya how about taking care of these backyard breeders and gangbangers who train these dogs to be vicous and use them in illict ways instead of going after every family pet:(

Yeah too bad there's no law that lets cops euthanize known gangbangers or anyone that is "gangbangeresque".

That's a myth. Vetenarians and biologists have even testified to that fact does'nt stop the myth.
They can testify all the want to, but their testimony is refuted by the facts. The bulls and terriers that are being targeted are most certainly naturally more aggressive.
If not, they wouldn't be being trained to fight on a regular basis.
When's the last time you saw a Lab-fighting ring get broken up? How about a Mastiff-fighting ring? Never?
Yet they are busting people who fight bulldogs and terrier-mixes all the time.
Why? Because they are easier to make fighting dogs out of. Because they are naturally more aggressive, or at least more prone to being aggressive.
Just because an experienced trainer can make one into the model family dog doesn't mean it's realistic to think the average yahoo in the 'hood can, or should be expected to.

I don't support taking everyone's dog and killiing it, but I might be in favor of some strict licensing and owner-training before people are allowed to own one. Look up pit bull care and any reputable info site will tell you up front that they are prone to be aggressive toward other dogs, and are high-maintenance.

Edit: I looked at some of the other pics.....nobody is going after Spuds McKenzie dogs. Anybody knows they aren't pits. And I agree that there are several other breeds and mixes that get lumped into the "It's a Pit Bull" category by those who don't know the difference.

Presa Canario do a google image search...awesome specimins..prolly waste 10 pitbulls...maybe they should use them the euthanize..I'd pay to see that.

Coming from an apparant dog lover, that's a pretty terrible joke.

That is the worst piece of crap I've read lately. I sincerely hope that wasn't an actual quote from a journalist. If so, I weep for our future. :(

Last I knew, the dogs that they will be confiscating and euthanising haven't killed anyone, either. If they're going to stretch the logic and say "but some pit bulls have killed people", then I could use the same poor logic and say "and some xxxrace humans have killed people too"

Sounds bad to say, but I would to.

I had a mailman threaten to mace my dog (mace can out, pointed at my dog) because he was standing next to me when I answered the door and popped his nose out from behind the door. I told him that if he even thinks about it I'll slam the door so fast it will rip his extended arm right off... the second he left I called the postmaster. The guy got his route re-assigned the next day.

I believe the constitution has relegated the control over such things to the states so individual states can decide whether you can possess one of these animals just as they can decide whether you can possess livestock on your property. Do I agree with it? To an extent but the solution is to get out there and vote, the problem is you aren't going to find many people that feel the same as you. Unfortunately the only solution to that is for you to move somewhere where others feel the same as you. Much like the obscenity laws in this country the courts will likely uphold that rather than force your views on others you should find other people who feel like you do and move into their jurisdiction.

Many of the humane societies/dog pounds in MI will not adopt out a dog that even remotely looks like it contains any pitbull lineage, they are automatically euthanized if not claimed by the original owner.

Entirely incorrect. They dont' have "lockjaw." They got a reputation as having it because they don't like to let go when they bite (as opposed to normal dogs which bite, let go, bite again, let go, bite again, etc. Pit Bulls Bite once and squeeze. But that doesn't have anything to do with their jaw).

Also, Pit Bulls aren't any more dangerous than other protective dogs (Rotts, German Shepherds, etc.). Go to a dog show and see what a properly trained Pit Bull (or any other dog) is like.

Recently I went to an attack dog show (where they train dogs to attack on command). They brought out three pit bulls. They bit the guy (in the dummy suit) and let go on command. I was then immdiatly allowed to pet the dog and it was nice as could be. One of the nicest dogs I've ever met.

I've met over 50 pit bulls and owned a half pit/half rott and have yet to meet a mean one. It is all about the training.

It is the jackasses that get one and don't know how to train or try to make it mean that give the Pit Bull its bad reputation.

And of course the misinformation ignorance about them is spreading, and it pisses me off to no end :|

and I've seen them use a baseball bat and a sledgehammer to kill a pit to get it to let go when it
attacked someone else's dog, and well I grew up on and near farms....these animals (and most other dogs
but especially these) are shot on sight.

like I said, sterilization and regisration- if they are taught to be vicious and aggressive you can hopefully
track down the owners and punish them.

Of course, I think people should be forced to go to a class akin to
'hunter safety' before being allowed to own pets, in particular those city folk ;)

Shut up farmerboy aaman.

Screw this, if someone tried to come and take my pet they'd have to go through me first. Tell me...is it worth killing a man for?
