Hey Everyone,

Not sure if anyone knows how to do this, but I have an issue with setting up a Dentrix Workstation on a computer that is a Dentrix Server. Here is the situation:
We had a practice close and had the server sent to another practice. That computer is sitting not used, and we need to keep the server in tact in case we need to access any patient data. I want to use this computer as a workstation on another server while keeping the original server in tact and accessible. I have added a new user account to the computer and have activated sharing with the second server, but when I access Dentrix it pulls the data from the server on the same machine. I spoke to Dentrix but they won't give me any advice or information on if this can even be done unless I pay $200 for support, which I am obviously trying to avoid. Both systems are running Dentrix G6, is there any way to get these set up to have a server for one practice and a workstation for another practice on the same machine?

Thanks in advance!

So a dental office which depends on a software that control the whole operation is not willing to pay for service? I don't get it.

You probably won't get your answer here since most questions here are very general.

You wouldn't want to pay for service either. The company charges you $200 for each incident - if you have 3 problems at the same office that $600....

And thanks for the tip, thought it was worth a shot at asking.

Well, according to

page 5:

1 Server: In a Dentrix system, the Dentrix server is the computer that will act as a Dentrix database server for all of the Dentrix computer workstations. It can also provide other server related functions like DHCP, Internet connectivity, or file sharing services. The Dentrix server can be used as a Dentrix workstation, but disk space, memory, and networking throughput requirements should be evaluated and optimized to ensure that the overall response to the workstations is acceptable. Non-dedicated servers (servers that are also used as workstations) will require an additional 2 GB of memory beyond the server requirements and preferably have a faster processor than the one listed to help reduce any latency/performance issues.

So you can have a server also acting as a workstation. But my judgement is that it must be same database, like what you experienced.

If you insist running a client workstation accessing another practice's database on a server machine, I would suggest running it inside a virtual machine. Because if you don't, it probably will screw up the existing server system. You never know how the programmers program the software.

The best way, use another physical machine.
