Dental work! Does this look expensive to you?

So I'm at the dentist and he says I need to replace a crown or something. I live in southern California and this is the quote I got. Does this seem expensive to anyone else or is it just me?

*goes into a fury about how EVERYTHING medical is overpriced and is total bullshit and the industry is fucking retarded and greedy*

*...passes out*

same here, you can bargain too. I had a crown replaced not too long ago and they first quoted me 2200 (it is a blue block, which is a new permanent crown in one day), and then they came back with 1700 something. after insurance, it cost me a little over 1k.

It looks OK. With my United Concordia I paid 1,500. The procedures are correct, he needs to do a build up as well as the crown. However, if you actually look at the procedures and the cost of materials it's exhorbinatley expensive. I've though several times of purchasing the equipment and doing it myself.

For an onsite, milled ceramic inlay I ended up paying $380. The dentist said the non-insurance rate was $525. The dentist later billed the insurance company about $1350. The insurance company told the dentist to get bent. The dentist left it at the agreed $380 I had paid. Inlays are simpler with fewer surfaces to image, match, and machine plus an easier attachment point so your quote above may be fairly reasonable.

i paid about $750 for the crown/buildup without insurance ( add ~$300 for root canal )

i have had a couple crowns replaced in the past few years, here in MO i think my portion was about $350-$400 each

For one crown? I think that's expensive.

edit:
Wait, "patient portion" is $655...yeah that's about the going rate here.

No idea... I was thinking about getting a mouthguard and that came to $450, so I set eff that and bought an OTC one for $40.

Not bad at all. The last time my dentist recommended a root canal and crown, the price was estimated to be between $3000 and $3500.
