I've been wanting to join some kind of healthcare and dental plan and not sure how to get started. I'm working freelance/contractor currently and need something low cost for preventative care and a few minor issues I'm having right now. What should I expect to pay and who/what/where should I be avoiding? Also are there insurance plans that cover both health and dental? What are your research results as a freelancer looking for health insurance? I'm totally ignorant about this sorta thing and wish to avoid problems as I know there are many scams out there. Any help would be appreciated :)

Advanced Search > "dental insurance" (might need archived threads), the news is bleak on dental.

Are you a member of professional organization(s) that might let you join a group plan?

You usually must wait a long time for coverage on any existing conditions, anywhere from 6 months to a year for dental. All you should count on your first year is cleaning and exams.

how old are you? I get health insurance for $95/month w/$1000 deductible & pay 20% after the deductible has been reached.

helps that I'm only 24

I use HealthPartners (might be Minnesota only?)

Found it by going to ehealthinsurance.com and got a free quote.

Exactly!

I personally know of two people who intentionally make less money (on paper) for the sole reason of getting free/super cheap health care. :disgust:
