Is a *racist **(right wing) bastard, ok so there's nothing new about that but I just came across some quotes by him that incensed me.

http://politicalhumor.about.co...ary/bldennismiller.htm

Particularly the first couple "French bashing" jokes! Ok I know these are supposed to be part of his "routine" and not told in a mad rage but really where's the difference, if anything it makes it worse.

*As others have point out racism isn't the correct term, the French aren't a race. But to me this kind of joke stems from the same source of ignorance and hatred as racism does.

**As others have also correctly pointed out he's not right wing on social issues, gay marriage, religion etc.. and in the eyes of many that doesn't make him right at all. I would say so too if it weren't for the volume of sarcastic, sometimes very smart and funny, jabs at liberal politics that keep spilling forth.

It's still humor though whether someone finds it funny or not. It even says Poltical Humor in black and white on it.

if that lying sack of turd michael moore can win the people's choice for his anti-bush propoganda, IMO Dennis Miller poking fun at the french (who made beaucoup francs off Sadam's regime) doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

First off, the French are not a race......but they are some of the most useless pricks on the earth so at least Dennis is being truthful. Get over it.

Ok so perhaps racist is technically not the correct word to use but it embodies the same thing, the hatred for a people for belonging to some group or having some trait for which they are born with. How's this any different from hating Americans for being Americans? "I hate what the American military so I start telling some joke about how all Americans are lying sacks of shit?"

I don't think Dennis Miller is racist at all. I used to find him really funny in his younger days. Now he seems to have put comedy behind pushing his own right wing agenda. Bring back the old Dennis Miller where the funny came first :)

If your asking about the (*) footnote. I'm responding to people who claim the French are not a race they are not a nationality. That's true and so technically the term racism as it's usually applied to hatting a distinct "race" doesn't apply, but it stems from the same thing.

Oh, they are not jokes...they are the truth and this guy is obviously a French-Canadian and the truth is something that he does not like in this case.

Right wing it doesn't make him, that he's self professed. As others have said they feel a jokes a joke. Perhaps I just got out of the wrong side of bed today, I don't know? I agree that most of the time a jokes a joke and usually I'm with the guys saying so. The reason I dislike this kind of thing so much is that it's told in a politically charged atmosphere and is told in part out of anger and dislike for the other side, and is meant in part to dismiss others by using a collection of stereotypes of culture, comments on cowerdace etc.. Say America went to war with some country and Japan openly refused to help. I see little difference between these jokes and a joke about "Them japs and their small penis' " in a similar situation.

I enjoy watching his show. I wouldn't describe his as right wing as some of you guys make him out to be - he's for abortion, for gay marriage, and doesn't consider himself a Christian. I like his show because he doesn't take it too seriously. I get a good kick out of it, and he has a wide variety of guests that I usually find entertaining.
