Seems she is doing them a favor.

Her intention was to “create the framework” for the four grandchildren “to be able to shape their own lives, without being limited by the special considerations and duties that a formal affiliation with the Royal House of Denmark involves”.

Why? What purposes do royals even serve nowadays? The governments are run by elected officials and bureaucrats...
I’m not a royalist myself, but they represent the official Denmark, its culture and history and are apolitical, so in that regard it is a uniting factor for the nation.
