Yes, the Democrats promote class envy, for example "the two Americas".

[*]If You raise my tax rate, you curb some of this effort , to an extent.

You with me so far?

I'm not so sure, but I'll agree for the sake of argument.

Well, I am very confident that if the Rich take a sizeable hit, the poor and middle class will feel much better, because they know the rich can afford it.

Now to continue, I run a small business and I have become quite accustomed to the lifestyle that it affords.

What do you suppose I am going to do to compensate for the new tax that I must now pay if my tax rate is raised?

You're going to increase the cost of your goods/services.

Ayup, and the poor and the middle class, my customers, are going to pay the price.:D

Only in America.
When the Government needs more money to pay for the things promised to its good citizens, here is the solution.

Raise tax rates on the Rich, the poor and middle class foot the bill, and THEY FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT.

Who was it that came up with this Idea?:)

The rich have an obligation to pay more taxes (as a percentage of income), because they make far greater use of government-funded infrastructure than the ordinairy American (or Australian, British citizen, etc). This is why we have a progressive taxation system -- to ensure that the wealthy pay a fair tax rate, that is in proportion to the benefit they gain from tax-funded infrastructure.

The rich in the USA are paying less in tax than they have for decades. There is room to return tax rates for the wealthy to sane levels.

The rich are paying more, not less. They are responsable for a very large percentage of income taxes paid.

So what tax rate do you think would be fair for the rich, and what would you classify as rich?

That depends on what you think a person who can't afford a IRA, or to send his kids to college should pay in taxes. It's all subjective, isn't it.

Given that the bottom 50% of the population pays less than 4% of the income taxs, those folks are not paying much if any in federal taxes.

Well, someone has to finance the goverment, I guess that only leaves teh rich. You can piss and moan about it all you want, but you gotta make money to pay taxes. As more and more of the wealth ends up in the hands of the wealthy, they're just going to have to pay more taxes. The bottom 50% just can't afford it and the goverment knows it.

Of course, that won't stop you from whining about it though, will it. :)

IT would not matter the taxing scheme, the rich are going pay more. However, since the poor pay little in taxes, they are going to continue to vote themselves the treasury...

They would if they could. They will continue to vote for people who promise them the treasury. Of course, there's nothing in the treasury except a bunch of IOU's, and that's the problem.

But knowing that, Bush starts an unnessesary war and adds hundreds of billions (and counting) of dollars to the debt. Now we have to rebuild Iraq when we should be investing the money in this country to make it more competitive and provide jobs. It would sure be nice if we had some more people with good enough jobs to help pay for the cost of running the goverment and reduce your taxes, don't you think?

I would always welcome more good jobs.

Then we need to quit bickering amongst ourselves and figure out what we need to do to get more good jobs in this country before it is too late. The politicians in this country are so intent on backbiting each other to keep their powerful positions that it seems that very little, if anything constructive gets done.

The current administration has the attitude that it their way or the highway. We, the people need to get our heads out of our asses and find someone who can unite us. Hell, a game show could get us a better President then the one we have now.
