Dems need a Southern Democrat next time

I saw the electoral map of 92 and 96 and Clinton won quite a few southern states and the ones that he lost in were by 1-2%. Is their anyone like Clinton out there?

The last Northeastern Democrat elected president was John F. Kennedy in 1960. Since then, just three Democrats - all from the South - have served: Lyndon Johnson of Texas, Jimmy Carter of Georgia and Bill Clinton of Arkansas.

That should be listed under the Category of No Sh!t Sherlock! I'm surprised that Kerry did as well as he did.

I'm in New Orleans, can hardly get any more South other than someone from South Florida.

Yeah right, I wopuld vote for Falwell before I voted for you. At least we'd know he'd have a better chance of dying in office due to his age!

Yeah.

Funny thing is Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate....and the Red states in general have the most out of wed-lock births.

It's not about the moral values of candidates or of the people from different areas.......but rather the perception of those.

Karl Rove is an absolute genius.

It's funny how Dems are strategizing on how to become more Republican to win an election. Why don't we just have 1 party?

No, that's not the case. The other 49% of the population is not going to instantly become Radical Religious Right Whack jobs.

That visit to Bob Jones U was prob the #1 smartest thing he did for the Bush candidacy.

BTW, the fact that one of the most liberal Senators in congress nearly got elected president, should give all conservatives pause.

Nice generalization of all conservatives. You may be right, but the 51% that elected Bush isn't going to instantly become Murderous, Lying, Athiest Theives overnight.

The New Mexico Governor...Bill Richardson?

Seems to have his name thrown around. Is this guy somewhat a moderate? If so, I might consider. Any comments on the guy?

I don't think the Southwest is South. More Southeast. NM is West.

Besides Nixon and Reagan, it's been a while since we had a president of any party that wasn't from the south, no?

W. Bush - Texas
Clinton - Arkansas
H. W. Bush - Texas
Reagan - California
Carter - Georgia
Nixon - California
Johnson - Texas
Kennedy - Massachusetts
Eisenhower - Texas

Wow, lots of Texas...

How is he one of the most liberal senators in Congress?

Bill Richardson is a nice guy and a Western moderate. It would be interesting to see how he would do in the Dem primaries.

True. Not really 3 states that are known for their educated intellectual leaders (no offense, I grew up in TX).

Is that how the south would see it?

I think Bill Owen of Colorado could pass off as a red state democrat.

And if not, let's not forget there's always Johnny Edwards 🙂

None taken. I live here but I'll always be a Californian

The Democrats can't win the South because the Republicans have

Very true.

I, personally, would love to have a moderate platform...either Republican or Democrat. Throw in some fiscal discipline and a few other items 🙂

Fiscal discipline should be demanded from both sides.

I personally think that it should be written into the Constitution...with emergency clauses of course.
