Dems locked out of debate on sweeping and controversial REAL ID Act

I'd say its smart to save floor time in the Senate and do the leg work outside the chamber. It saves us the boredom of the power plays. And it saves CSPAN the long tirades of an argument long since lost. Its not like this isn't modus operandi in politics.

Heh. Your statement about increasing religiosity is unfounded, Cyclo-

http://www.adherents.com/rel_USA.html

The numbers are ambiguous, with only the most radical sects showing increases, mostly taken from the more moderate denominations. More a symptom of the siren song of the far Right than anything else.

As for the topic of the thread, the Real ID act, lots of people seem to have a problem with it. Of course, the same gun owners and privacy advocates were quick to cross the line when it came to the CDL issue some years ago. Apparently, transportation workers are the only people who don't need privacy...

I personally don't have a problem with a system of nationally coordinated and authenticated identification, provided, of course, that it solves some of the real problems like voter registration and identity theft. Such a system could make sure that everybody who's eligible will automatically be registered to vote at the address on their ID. I doubt, however, that Repubs will go for that, at all...

I have no problem with issuing Driver's licenses to aliens, either, legal or not. Every ID should simply name the holder's country of citizenship.

Hiding other, more ominous provisions in such a bill is pretty much typical. Those are the aspects I object to, as I object to the use of the fait accompli methodology of the current repub majority. They pretty much run the nuclear option in the HOR, anyway, and are preparing to do the same in the Senate. Formulate legislation behind closed doors, introduce it, invoke cloture, vote- it's a done deal, free of any pesky minority appeals to common civility or reason... totalitarian rule clothed in the robes of democracy...

The problem is that the country was founded on the principles of people solving problems at the local level and only the most serious at the federal level. You have to throw the Constitution out to largely make the Republican neocon theories work. I think they seem to lead to the same doo-goodery that Nazis dabbled with, but don't take that as labelling them as Nazis. I just think too many people expect too much from bad government policies to begin with and would rather sell their souls rather than scrutinize their tresspassers. By trusting in a facelss government you leave open the possibility of a faceless tresspasser. We need to start questioning the reasons government is invloved in local matters and begin to recede federal cookie-cutter control so that our ability to solve our own problems is not threatened.

Yeah...the GOP playing dirty tricks is the Dems' fault.
Let's take an objective look at the situation, shall we?
1. Dems have less seats in House, Senate.
2. Reps have more seats in House, Senate.

Looking at it this way, the Reps can do just about anything they please. If the Dems had anything to offer, they would have the majority. Problem is, they don't. They refuse to listen to the majority on the issues that matter to that majority the most: social issues. This is the reason for the constant whining about the religious right getting its way. They're the majority and they're continually ignored by the left. Unfortunately for the left, they ARE the minority. If they don't want to be ignored, they should at least work for compromise. Being the stubborn minority does absolutely nothing for you in our system except piss people off.

yay i wonder what caused to have more republicans to be in the senate? hmm letss see according to US consititution people vote to choose their senetors so somewhere in the line its the Democrats fault for not being chosen..

The point is that the number of die-hard Christians (and other religious) in this country is growing rapidly. This base is socially conservative and always will be. They would otherwise vote for the Dems, but the social issues will override everything else, period.

The republican party is not dominated by Christians. I'm a 'die hard christian', my family is die hard christians, the republican party is not a faith dominated party! This line of bullshit is direct strategy and propaganda from karl Rove. You are a victim of propaganda, yet until you can admit being a victim within, you will never recover. We are here for you, we understand how embarrassed you must feel, and its hurts us to see you continue to be a victim of your own self denial. You are not alone, many Bush supporters are going through your very same struggles. We forgive you for being so angry and taking it out on us, hell, I know I couldn't hold all that anger and self hate inside before unleashing it on others in the form of denial and bigotry! We understand what your going through, and always remember you have people that truly care waiting with outstretched arms, awaiting your return...to reality. Keep your chin up, and let the healing begin. Its not your fault, for you are truly a VICTIM!
