I don't know about the source, but this is nothing new. Every sector of business I know of, its a requirement that the business in question, if they deal with the government are under scrunity for race and gender hiring. To the best of my knowledge that is one of the requirements to even hold a contract with the government. AA will be debated forever, but this is not some new government requirement. Maybe it was for some reason not required in the financial sector, but for the most part until here lately the government I don't think was a major player as the financial sector is mostly private run businesses.

One more thing your title is misleading. Because you make mention of the race part, but it is race and gender. I know the minority AA is a hot button issue that rallies the troops here, but at least make a title that reflects the facts from the article.

Everyone is free to look at the law and the sections outlined.

The fact of the matter is that people should be judged on the content o their character and NOT the color of hei skin.

Real clear politics is hardly a "rightwing" blog.

Good faith effort isn't the same thing as quota

It will eventually end up that if you dont meet a quota you will automatically be found guilty of not making a good faith effort.
The quota might be small, but in the end it will just displace talented people and give them something to bitch about.

Man I love being a white hispanic. All the benefits of being white (lack of discrimination) while qualifying for a bunch of "affirmative action" benefits. Sweet, hope this passes!

I am working on a project for the feds, we have to deal with BS like x amount of purchases have to be from "minority owned businesses." If the "minority owned business" is the cheapest and/or most reliable, all the better, but that is not always the case.

I really despise affirmative action.

But, I guess it works both ways... The project requires US Citizenship and I am one of the handful of American graduate CS majors at this university, so I guess without that little requirement from the feds, I would likely be replaced by a foreigner that is willing to work for less.

Utterly ridiculous. One buys the best product for the least price, not for the fucking ethnic diversity of the business. Another example of the failure that is the government.
