Demon Noises!

Yikes!
So I'm pretty sure my video card is possessed or something. My EVGA 980 Ti Classified makes some HORRIBLE sounds when running low end benchmarks like 3dmark Icestorm Extreme. Very loud, high pitched scratchy squeaks and whines.

Yet more demanding benchmarks such as Firestrike Ultra, Heaven 4.0 and so on, it's quiet :colbert: (it's also fine during gaming)
Any idea why it sounds like my video card is trying to open a gateway to hell during "easy" benchmarks?

If it matters here's the rest of my rig.

Corsair 750watt PSU
Win10 Pro

"Coil whine" as it's usually referred to. In this case it's happening on the "easy" benchmarks because the card is running them in hundred or thousands of frames per second. Its actually a fairly common occurrence among many cards from either brand.

Ah okay. I've heard of coilwhine before, but never experienced it myself until now. Glad to know it's not an angry demon 😛

I get it even from my GTX 960, usually on logos right before a game starts, which is odd as I have V-Sync forced in drivers. In game itself, even in easy ones, V-Sync keeps the card from spitting out more than 60 fps, so coil whine isn't a big issue.

It's probably that the simple act of outputting a frame takes a lot of power independent of the other hardware on the card.

If i play COD4 with my GTX 970 it usually averages around 300FPS+ and i can hear the slight coil whine. But with Vsync on it goes away.

Also with today's newer games i don't hear it at all except occasionally in a game menu. It's still very hard to hear even then.
