I thought the GOP was the party of "NO" and the Democrats were the party with all of the ideas......

The Senate turned back an effort by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) Thursday to put 6,000 more security troops on the Mexican border, as Democrats instead suggested that President Obama's proposal for an additional deployment of a temporary, 1,200-person force was sufficient for now.

The McCain measure, which needed 60 votes to be considered approved, fell short on a 51-46 vote as part of the Senate's broader consideration of a $59 billion spending bill that funds the troop surge into Afghanistan and other emergency measures. The border-security battle has become the most politically contentious issue surrounding what has otherwise become a routine passage of the war supplemental bill.

The Democrats continue to show their disconnect with the American people

ARGH! Why don't the democrats want to protect our borders? If Hitler himself were to march in with his Nazi army, democrats would just let him in. Democrats are showing their weakness on national security and weakness on immigration.

Illegal immigration IS a national security issue.

The Bush administration sent US border guards to Iraq to protect its borders. Did that piss off the OP, too?

They got 51 votes. Cant they just pull that reconciliation nonsense and pass this? I'm sure they could figure out a way that it effects the budget.

Gosh, I thought Obama was against national security for a minute, not just against some whacked out idea of national security. Fuck, it's so easy to be tricked by clever lying words. I bet this turd thread will draw some flies.

It's worth adding that McCain is also an appeasement/amnesty apologist except during election season. That guy doesn't reach across the aisle, he lives there between elections. That said, the only reason I can see for the Democrats' behavior is the realization that white males are not coming back to the Democrat Party and therefore they can only hope for increased numbers of Hispanic voters (including of course illegals registering day-of-election where the Dems have succeeded in neutering voter registration requirements) to offset that loss. They have to be betting that women, blacks, and anti-illegal immigration Hispanics will hold their noses and continue to vote Democrat for other reasons.

Feds Issue Terror Watch for the Texas/Mexico Border
The Department of Homeland Security is alerting Texas authorities to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the Somalia-based Al Shabaab terrorist group who might be attempting to travel to the U.S. through Mexico, a security expert who has seen the memo tells FOXNews.com.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/26/terror-alert-mexican-border/

In addition to the Somali immigration issue, Mexican smugglers are coaching some Middle Eastern immigrants before they cross the border – schooling them on how to dress and giving them phrases to help them look and sound like Latinos, law enforcement sources told FoxNews.com.

What were you "progressives" saying about the "faux" outrage?

The Repubs have been scuttling all debate over the much needed Wallstreet reform, but when the Dems shoot down a token gesture by John McCain, Panderer in Chief, all that fury over government bail outs and corporations ruining our economy goes right out the window.

I'm all for border security, hell I've wanted them closed, but to pin the Dems as being detached from what Americans want when the GOP is the true party of No, well that's just friggin hilarious, even coming from shameless partisan trolls like the OP.

Give the faux outrage a rest guys, leave that for Palin.

secure the friggen boarders already.

How many billions are the illegals going to get to eat of the American Economy before the democrats feel they have secured enough of the "hopeless" vote to stay in office and ruin more of the USA.

You mean that bullshit "financial reform" bill that will make it harder to start a small business? The one that doesn't put an end to "to big to fail"? Or are we talking about the bill championed by Chris Dodd, one of the people largely responsible for the whole meltdown? Oh, they're all the same bill, my bad.

I'm talking about the Wallstreet reforms that a clear majority of Americans think is very necessary. You know, because of that whole 'banks almost bringing us another Great Depression' thing. You can disagree over the details on the first draft, fine, but if you agree that there is a problem to be fixed then you should take issue with Repubs simply saying No to any debate over it. Wtf will that accomplish? The same progress they had with Healthcare, i.e, jack shit over 16 years. Trying to pin our financial woes on one person like Dodd is a pathetic cop out. Why don't you address something real, like derivatives and the role they played inour little meltdown. While your at it, you could explain why the GOP cares more about banks being allowed to continue their derivatives bullshit than they care about the wellbeing of the middle and lower classes.

The GOP has their finger on the pulse of what the banks want, yet has convinced many Americans it's them that they are looking out for. Utter bullshit, but to be fair there is a fair number of corporatist Dems that fall into the same category. Regardless, that is all a far larger and more important issue than John McCain's latest attempt to suck up to voters.

The only reason O-Bummer sent troops to the border (Fake NG Troops), was he plans on trying to pass some bill for Amnesty for Illegals.

How much you wanna bet?
