Is a country a house? Once you answer that you'll know the answer to your own question.

does a country have a right to borders?

does a country have a right to control who enters those borders?

Once you answer those questions you'll stop asking stupid ones.

I don't have an issue with this. Given how Drumpf and his brownshirts have altered this election cycles physical landscape, I can't fault people for wanting to enhance security. Doesn't take much to imagine this will result in fewer Drumpf supporters sucker punching guys or pepper spraying women in the face.

What I take issue with is Hillary using white noise machines at her donor events to restrict who can hear what. If you are running for public office, you shouldn't be privatizing your message. Way to act like you have nothing to hide Hill, that people are wrong when they cite your roll overs for Wall St and flip flops for Main St.

Just because you have the right to do something incredibly stupid and ineffective, should you?

For you, the answer is "Yes, I do it all the time, just read some of my posts".

yes, but 'the wall' is a fairytale, a financial, logistical and societal impossibility. other than that, it's spot on

What does that have to do with the wisdom (or lack thereof) of building a wall?

A country is not a house, you control access to them differently. A wall across our southern border would be a hugely expensive waste of time. It's a transparently stupid idea.

No it's not any of those things. It's a construction project, there are any number of company's that could easily handle it. Cost is subjective. Here in CA we're spending 60 billion dollars (most likely 3 or 4 times that amount) on a train that will suck money out of the general fund forever. At the same time, we've deferred 60 billion worth of infrastructure repairs because we can't afford to do them. The point being that it doesn't have to be logical, it doesn't have to make any sense at all, it just has to be popular.

So there's a well laid out plan for 'the wall', covering all costs, environmental impacts, property issues, materials and approvals from local governments? Do tell.

I do think it is a prudent idea to add this fence and to have walls in your house. If you don't establish control you should not expect anyone else to recognize your control.
I just don't understand why having a border wall is any different.

Stop it Jim. You are making too much sense. Any idea how many Bernie Sanders supporters who read this, have gone to their safe place to soothe their feelings?

Wow! I didn't know there was anyone near my side and Trump's side in this forum. Nice to hear you.
I have a poll up to see how long it will take Trump to build the wall here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2467058 Add your 2 cents worth as my opinion is losing badly.

I figure 1 month to cripple or end the EPA and 8 months to build the wall.

I'm OK with the convention center being walled off. I'm OK with armed security too. But if they ask for ID to get in, well that's just plain going too far.

Already voted, and since I'm from Chicago, I'll vote twice :p
It's not going to happen, sorry, well no, not sorry, it was a horrible idea from a smarmy salesman.

You and I don't see eye to eye on much, but we do here. The political scene this election cycle has gotten way too far out of hand, ON BOTH SIDES.

Just imagine if we still used the stagecoach. It would be so great. Very conservative too.

That's a good point. How are the undocumented workers going to get in?

Democrats believe in guns for their bodyguards and walls for their venues.
Plebs need not apply.

Help me out here.

What group's name could you put in that sentence to make it seem hypocritical?

What good is a bodyguard who isn't armed? Why would any group ignore security in such a climate to such a degree?

The GOP nominee has personally endorsed violence towards opposing views on several occasions, and as it happens on several occasions his supporters didn't have a problem playing along.

Interesting to see walls and fences come back in to vogue on the Democrat side. It's been missing since Hillary advocated for them back in 2006.
