Democrats in congress need to seriously start searching for their version of Newt Gingrich.

FYI, AOC is not the Democrat's Newt Gingrich.
Newt Gingrich was the one who made Republicans get Texas and many other states in the first place. He also was the one who started the urban-rural divide. Democrats need to find the opposite version of Newt Gingrich. Obama and AOC were almost, but they did not carry the momentum going forward as Newt Gingrich gave the Republicans.

Republicans aren't Democrats. Part of the reason conservative networks and talk radio can exist.

Good stuff!

Everyone has their own taste.

I don't like high rye content bourbons personally.

Makers, Evan, even Jim Beam and Coke will do for me.

Maybe you think that's strange.. but everyone I know loves scotch and I don't. I find it bitter. I like high corn content bourbons.

I'm trying to get Blantons!

Nothing strange about that at all! I’m good trying anything that has a low wheat or barley in the mash bill. Gluten is my enemy.

I found a bottle of Blantons last year. Good but not the holy grail IMO.

Cheers!

No problem. I keep a bottle of WR double oaked in the freezer at all times since it’s my go to. Price is up like everything. $55 at Kroger.

The Blantons we picked up was $104 and my wife got lucky. She showed up at the store at the same time they received their special release from the distributor.

How a political thread discussion devolves to a bourbon discussion.

I think the Dems desperately need some strategists to provide guidance on messaging and actually unifying behind key initiatives. The current "people will vote for our platform because they are smart" approach clearly doesn't work like it should.

Blanton's is overpriced crap. Almost any hand picked bourbon off the shelf at $80 is infinitely better.
Some of my standards that are easy to get:

Old Forester 1910 -$60.

Smooth Ambler Old Scout - $60 -$80 for 5-8 year.

Evan Williams Bottled in Bond -$25 - hands down the best bang for the buck. Great sipper with some ice and makes great mixed drinks.

Eagle Rare snd Wellers are definite buy if you find them at shelf price.

Bourbon is politics too!

BTW I'm a sweet tooth that doesn't like bitter rye spice.

Got any other recommendations?

And yes Evans is the one I really like along with black label! $30+ tax here though in NYC. Still worth it.

I've been contemplating trying Benchmark, Black Eagle, WIld Turkey and Early Times for bourbon and coke. Usually drink it with the EW black label.

Hell I still have a nostalgia for my college years with Jim Beam and Coke!

Old Elk Wheated has a nice sweet note. Not sure if you have abinnys or total wine but they carry it.

We should start a bourbon thread in OT if there isn't one there.

We should ask Perknose to sticky a bourbon thread here.. where all the shit flung around is the kind of scotch drinkers arguing vs bourbon drinkers.

Prolly would become a bit too hot for OT!

I like bourbon but honestly never had better than Knob Creek or Maker's Mark. I liked those, and they were good neat or with coke or just a few cubes. Think I had Eagle Rare once or twice.

I was a single malt scotch drinker, ranging from minimum of 12yr to 25yr max. A 25 year McCallan and a 30 year Laphroaig were the best I ever grabbed, and they were both around $400 for a 750mL bottle. Walker blue label is good blended scotch, @ around $200 the last time I bought it at Costco.

At the bar it was usually Bourbon (listed above), Glenlivet 12, or Jameson.

This was a good derailing. :p

Just the standard bar stuff, nothing fancy...top shelf at your neighborhood dive bar lol. I did have the aged stuff at least one time, at a restaurant I was eating at. It was quite good, I thought.

The very few times I actually bought a bottle of Bourbon in the liquor store, it was standard fare like that, or Makers.

I have actually gotten into it recently.

Not that I'm a connoisseur of whiskey by any means but I was watching Goldfinger and noticed Sean Connery and Goldfinger having a mint julep. Was curious about it, tried it out and holy shit, it was good.

Most surprising of all.. some of the pains I used to take painkillers for went away and at most it felt like stiffness.

At the very least it is a cheap mans painkiller with a nice taste!

Must be something in the limes, mint and corn combo since beer, rum, scotch and wine don't quite have the same pain relieving effect on me. Oh and as I mentioned I'm a sweet tooth!
