I don't think they were in conflict at all. Where did Ben Franklin say that income redistribution was constitutional?

The federal government most certainly passed laws that had the effect of redistributing income during the time the founders were alive and in power, so at least some of them clearly thought it was constitutional. I mean hell, Thomas Jefferson led a federal bailout of the cod industry, directly giving tons of other people's money to the cod fishermen.

Not sure why this is even being argued.

Here's a good Ben Franklin quote on the matter:

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
-Benjamin Franklin

False quote, no evidence anything like that was ever stated by Franklin. It appears to come from sometime in the 1950s.

So no, not a good franklin quote, haha.

He's just being deliberately obtuse. That's why he employed the "argument from authority" in the first place.

I'm not arguing that it's unconstitutional. I'm giving a historical example of a FF who questioned whether this was an intention of our Constitution.

As for Ben Franklin, I guess this is a far right wing website:

/r/AskHistorians is a strictly moderated sub of actual historians:

It's pretty easy to see why right wing degenerates lie about this stuff all the time because their peers always believe it.

They're merely mistaken-

None of it matters because appeal to authority is a logical fallacy in the first place. The Founders were all merely human & products of their time. They'd be bewildered by our world.

Being on topic, I do agree it's time for a discussion about Nancy Pelosi. I don't think she's done a bad job but she hasn't protected her reputation just like Hillary or many other Democrats haven't.
Fair or unfair she now has a stigma attached to her name, this does not help winning elections.

Out of curiosity, if you accept the premise, what the hell do you think voting for tax cuts is?

Part and parcel of doing a good job. If somebody else does a good job in her position, they'll be similarly hated.

The right wing noise machine will quickly slime any successor.

Yes but who cares? The people who wrote the constitution had hugely varying ideas on what they thought it should do. You can find one of them to support almost any position.

As others have pointed out your quote is wrong. Time to accept that.

I hope she remains, she has been a disaster for the Dems. She's 77 and can't string together two coherent thoughts together in a row anymore.

Hmm, you realize you're a trump supporter, right? If you think not being able to string two coherent thoughts together is a problem for a political leader then you've got a huge problem there. Trump is so rambling and incoherent on such a regular basis that he has people genuinely wondering if he's suffering from dementia.

Seriously, go look at the text from a speech of his and try to figure out what he's saying. It's word salad.

It doesn't need to make sense to feel good, to get those juices of self righteousness all frothed up. It's a Church Lady thing.

Your precious concern is duly noted.

Fake quote which is often attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville as well.

If there's a fight over her job/power in the Dem party, Republicans will fight the hardest to keep her where she is. They love her as the face of the Dem party

All I can say is that it's been widely attributed to Ben Franklin. I can't say I can prove it by posting one of his e-mails. I can't prove to you that anybody ever walked on the moon or that Jesus Christ ever existed but I don't lose sleep over it.

Some rando quote site who just happened to host it is probably mistaken, the person who submitted it to them like sea ray is probably dishonest.

There are many sites who attribute this to BF. What hasn't been posted yet is any FF who advocates a socialist state with cradle to grave entitlements.

And after all those words, it's *still* not something that he said. <shrug>

Inheritance of great wealth will provide that to a person, don't you think?

The American people haven't worked for generations so that only the wealthy can enjoy that inheritance. They didn't build this. We all did.

Liberals here love to quibble about useless nonsense.
