Democratic Rep. Ellison launches into tirade on Fox News

Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison exploded during a live interview with Sean Hannity on Tuesday, calling the Fox News host the "worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen" and a "shill for the Republican Party."

The Minnesota congressman was on the program to discuss President Barack Obama's remarks on the sequester when he launched into a tirade aimed at Hannity, who had said "The president is more concerned with fearmongering than finding a solution to the problem he created."

"Quite frankly, you are the worst excuse for a journalist I have ever seen,"

Ellison told Hannity, who said he couldn't hear him. "You heard me."

Ellison then accused Hannity of "yellow journalism."

"Every journalistic ethic I've ever heard of was just violated by you," Ellison said. "For you to say the president is to blame here is ridiculous."

When Ellison called Hannity a "shill" for the GOP, the Fox News host tried to correct him. "I'm a registered conservative," Hannity said. "Keep ranting."

Ellison did, and Hannity eventually ended the interview.

"Congressman, you are a total waste of time," Hannity said. "We're moving on, because our audience deserves better."

Ellison and those like him simply can't bear to have someone believe something different. I don't like Hannity, but he didn't do anything offensive or out of line -- Ellison just became unhinged because someone dared express an opinion that he didn't agree with. Ellison is garbage IMO. Actually, both of them are.

As much as I hate Hannity I'll side with him on this one. It was a simple question and you can technically say it is Obamas fault. It's almost as if he came up with this just to fear monger the absolute shit out of it and hammer Republicans even more.

Even if he hadn't, that is still no excuse to say babies are going to be left to die and planes are going to fall from the sky. If a majority of Congress says it's going to happen you should probably "get off your ass" and go cut shit you both can agree on.

I watched the Newport News speech. It was the absolute most absurd bullshit I have ever heard him say. I normally look at it from all perspectives but that was straight good old fashioned American fear mongering at its best.

Keith Ellison is a hero

Bravo for tearing Hannity a new one

You have a depressingly low standard for what a hero is. It's refreshing, sure, but let's not get carried away.

Sean Hannity, a lying, unscrupulous, ethically challenged idiot posing as a journalist? Holy shit, I never would have guessed!

Jon Stewart needs his own thread then, his history of beating the shit out of Fox and it's noise puts Ellison to shame.

I agree with you. Far from a Sean Hannity fan, but he didn't do anything he normally doesn't do on a daily basis. He has made it perfectly clear what side of the ideological spectrum he's on. His show is opinion, not hard news. Rep Ellison seems like a normally level headed person, but in this instance, it looked like he did become a bit unhinged.

Holy cow. Is this Fox news? I thought they just take subtle jabs at the democratic but I never knew they take it this far now.

Is this news/journalism or just stupid entertainment?

And LOL @ Yahoo comments. That's where all the uneducated, unqualified complain that they can't find $40/hr union jobs because the government doesn't create those for them.

That's odd, Chris Christie yells at reporters he is a hero. Keith Ellison chews out a repor, journ, Sean Hannity and he is "unhinged"

I guess you missed the segment hannity played before Ellison came on? What was the background music from again?

I really don't like Hannity's show and generally try to keep from watching it, but this is one of his better moments. He really didn't do anything I would say is bad journalism, but he did provoke a response from Ellison that I believe will be bad for all Democrats.

Watching Ellison's rant showed me exactly why stuff isn't getting done in Congress. His bickering and refusal to give Hannity any time for a question, along with the personal attacks and his absolute anger that someone criticized Obama, demonstrates to me that rather than work with others, he attacks them and their view. This is a poor reflection of him and his party, and I really do hope that this not how he behaves in Congress.

Is that why you always foam and spew when people call you on your bullshit? Never mind, of course it is.

Gramps you have no perspective on what is and isn't bullshit with your head buried so far up your colostomy bag. I'm sorry you are a bitter old man but like some many of your ilk, look in the mirror to see the problem. It's been playing peek-a-boo with you since you were a child. YOU... So what are you still doing here? You are dismissed. I'll never back down from the likes of you, your bullshit act doesn't scare me in the slightest! RIP useless relic.

Ellison was reacting to the piece Hannity played before he came on which was the typical "Obama is bad" clip and then tried to have an honest interview. Give me a break.

So are you being paid to post by Hannity, Murdock, The RNC or all of the above?

First off, don't kid yourself that this is Hannity's belief. He's paid to create a ego-stroking fantasy world for his viewers, not to believe his own lies. And being that it's just propaganda for the unwashed masses, Ellison is quite right to be insulted that it's being directed at him. Educated people can't be pushed off their informed beliefs by unsupported and unsupportable insinuation.
Hannity is playing to the Fox News narrative, which is quite distant from the truth. There is no truth that Fox News can't make more palatable to their viewers by adding a lie, and they do so with glee. But to play such games when facing someone who's above them, while politically effective, is rude and subject to call-out.

Obama can't stop Congress from putting a bill on his desk. Hannity knows this. It's his viewers who want to hear, "It's Obama's fault," and so Hannity feeds them what they want to keep those gullible masses buying the products advertised on his show and thus funneling millions to him. But that's his shtick, not Ellison's.

Hannity creates a product. People need to stop pretending guys like him actually believe all of what they are saying. He is still an absolutely terrible person for being a part of this behavior, but he doesn't believe all of it.

I loved the look on Hannity's face...LMFAO!! Kudos to Keith Eliison to be able to tell the truth before the mute button could be hit. ;)

The Congressman let his emotions get the best of him. It actually showed him to be weak and perhaps not the best leader. Maybe he was having a bad day? He should choose to have better days when he's on national TV. Is this his behavior on the Hill? He also showed his true colors politically by speaking of republican lawmakers as though they were criminals. This man and many others of both parties are governing this country with this type of demeanor...scary. Some of you are calling him a hero? Stay classy Congressman Ellison....stay classy.

BTW I'm not a fan of Hannity but he's not the elected official either and to be honest I thought he was more than fair during the....discussion?
